The last day of my Polish class is coming up, and I want to bring flowers for my teacher. I don't know much about this tradition so I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction- what kind should I get? I don't want to mess up and get funeral flowers or something.

How long you are not buying chrysanthemums - you are fine.

true... those you buy for funerals/cemetery...

any other flowers are fine...

Yellow means your leaving her. I made this mistake with one Polish girlfriend.

With the next girl I bought Lillies. They were out the front door in seconds. Nearly me too.

Just get a big bunch of daisies, lilies of the valley, or something else that's cheap and cheerful :-) It's supposed to bring a smile to her face, not make her love you (I assume) ;-)

lilies of the valley

Nice :-)
Freesias have never failed me. Unpretentious, yet elegant, many colours available.

A few "rules" to be aware of:

- make sure they are (relatively) fresh cut, no dried stuff
- chrysanthemums - best for cemeteries, funerals
- carnations - bring associations withe the commie era
- no potted plants
- no artificial flowers, no matter how good the Chinese factory is
- always an odd number (even number brings bad luck)
- red roses good if you want to show a sign of love, but never on the first date

that's all I can think about.
