I'm not asking Poles about they favorite song but expats living in Poland or other foreigners who had an opportunity to hear some Polish music. I think it would be intresting to know. The age of song is not important. It doesn't have to be in Polish but performed and written by Poles.

*(I know that Polish music sucks for some recent years, so you don't have to mention it - we are all awere of that ;)

Coma, Ocean, Myslovitz, Hey, Acid Drinkers. most pop/rock and rock bands are as good as any out there.

female vocalists here can be good. there is nothing wrong with ewa farna:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCHEGN_CmvI

the problem is that bands in Poland can be seen and heard at almost any time. this makes them seem unimportant.

bands from other countries don't tour here so often, they play stadiums and so they are given more importance.

the music is in fact very similar and the talent is equal.

It's not just Polish music that sucks in recent years, it's everywhere.

Two songs I do like though from recent years.

I can't defend it on aesthetic grounds, but I really enjoy this, maybe because it's got my boy Franek Kimono in it...

More defendable in terms of quality and taste. Plus she's just adorable looking here, the 60's retro look is very good for her.

aren't you Polish?

Sokół and Pono? Oh no. We have so many god hip-hop that we don't need any of these mock songs...
Actually I exactly mean stuff like that. It's not good music according to my inner esthtics

No. Born and raised in US with no Polish ancestory that I know of.

I normally dislike hip hop (nihilistic destroyer of music, ideals and beauty that it is name a moving hip hop song, go ahead, I dare you), so it's only the marginal, goofy stuff that I can stand.

REALLY? Wow I thought you are 100% Polish by your posts. You are so deep into Polish affairs. Do you live for long time in Poland? :)

I'm also not a fan of hip-hop but in Poland we have some nice stuff that everyone enjoy.
Fisz for example and my fav tunes of his:

What about Kaliber 44 and Paktofonika which are cult hip hop groups?

I like the song Urke by Wilki. More of a radio song really but it's the kind of song I might play on Youtube once in a while.

The song 'dozwolone od lat osiemnastu/permissible from the age of 18' by Czerwone Gitary is also light-hearted and reminds me of some of the British stuff from the 60's like Hermann's Hermits and The Byrds, such music.

For a good laugh, I listen to Kazik. Here, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2xeRKq9Dvk, the lyrics are amusing :)

he has weites really great lyrics. Full of sarcasm and double meanings, politically involved.

Yeah, this is where Polish music is strong, in its dedication to political commentary. It really strikes a chord with many Poles.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mSIUTyT-CQ&feature=related, this is also a nice piece to listen to at the end of the night before going to bed. Dżem with Autsajder :)

i don't go out of my way to listen to hip-hop, rap etc.

i usually listen to small pieces when one of my kids is on u-tube. strangely i'm the only one in the house who listens to fisz.
i took a female, chilian guest to see him. she enjoyed the gig because of the change of styles during the gig. this despite not understanding a word.

Behemoth's From The Pagan Vastlands:
From the land which hasn't enter yet
Into the history
From the depths of swamps we are bringing
Proudly our name
At night, kissing the moonlight -
- rebel children living in twilight
Like wolves...
... some named us so...
Union with people from the sign
Of the half-moon
To crush the golden walls of
Earthly heaven,
To strangle the pestilence...
To the lands of the mighty Empire
Others even think about with fear
We invaded a state with sword
In our hands
Roma means nothing
In the land of Slavs !
Today forests sing about the legend,
Long forgotten spirits
Whose names nobody remembers now
Waiting their day to reborn
Their visions of the past
Are torturing our souls
Whispering in the dark...
... they will come here again
To reign supreme
Believe my words...
From unremembrance
From Fire and Water
From the sacred woods
Ancient Wolves gather
From the burnt Arkona
... From the Pagan Vastlands !
Black horse rides across the sky
With a sword we will open the amber gates of Nawia
Dzieci Svantevitha nienawidza Chrystusa !!!
Dzieci Svantevitha nienawidza boga-krzyza !!!

Two 90's groups that should have had more success. An odd fact of Polish musical life is that Polish critics and other tastemakers actively dislike melodic music and so that anything pleasant sounding is looked down on ....

well, actually I agree with them that Big Day was nothing extraordinary. But I see that's your taste... Blur and Oasis obviously your favs, aren't they? :)

my favorite song by early 90's stars

great song on the mentality of a certain segment of Polish people

give me a link so that i can listen to a truly rockin' alternative song by a polish band. curious....

Has anyone on PF ever been to 'Alive' in Wroclaw? It's a bar with live music nearly every night, located in the far corner of all those "under the train tressel" bars. I've been there maybe 4-5 times in the past year and every time I go, there's a polish band in there playing great music. Last time I was there I listed to a band playing what seemed to be their own material, every song was great.

oh, and Mafketis, come on dude, those songs are awful. just awful.

The only decent Polish music in Poland is BASIEDA doing songs of days long gone by. No wonder, listening to that modern hip hop,is stupid. Could it be that is why modern day Poles are so promiscuos.
