Strange compared to whom? Where did you get this bizzarre "factoid?" 2 years?

You know, in my neighborhood, there is no place to chain dogs. My dog has traveled across the ocean way more times that you have, and would call you a hick. He lives in Paris now.

I would guess that it has to do with cultural and traditional reasons.

Different countries, different attitudes.;-)

That is not strange at all. If you are from an urban surrounding maybe, but for them it's normal and unless the dog get shelter, food and water nothing bad.

You'll find that in villages in Germany f.e., too.

It's you, yes. Poles tend to take good care of their animals.

Well its a strange one for me, maybe its a mainland european thing. Where i come from we only lock up dogs if they attack people or because they are chasing sheep or something, some even vote.

I can't remember if there was an amendment to the Dangerous Dogs Act 1976, I believe there was. In Scotland, one bite can get the dog put down and I find that a horrible position as it is usually the negligence of the owner in not controlling it well enough.

So true. I mean you have to of course care for them but most important to understand them.

There are some over bred races like German shepherd, Rottweiler, Dobermann etc. but most of the mistakes makes the owner.

I recommend sth I watched recently on Discovery. 'Dog whisperer'. Not bad for beginners ;-)

This is just one of them.

It's to guard the premises. Also, you wouldn't want a big dog like that running around a neighbour's livestock or on a road with made drivers.

Remember, not all the dogs are pets in the way an urbanite might see them.

This is not true. Pets bring much joy to our lives. Some people have dogs, some cats or both and much more. I'm more into cats. In the country many have dogs as protector. I live now in Kraków and work a lot, but I took two cats from the street. Cats do not give a lot of work.

You're not wrong. My neighbours are farmers and have loads of farmyard cats... who spend most of their time in our garden because they know my wife and I will feed them.

It is, unfortunately, true. Polish farmers have terrible attitude towards animals. The dogs are often chained, starved, kicked, left without water during Summer heat.

People in the cities tend to be a bit better, but still often they get rid of their dogs when they want to go on holidays. A friend of mine found a dog in a forest, tied to the tree, with a bin bag on its head.

Of course, there is also plenty of well loved animals in Poland.

that's a negative for Poland and a normal way (for some) to get rid of a dog.

Put yourself on a 2m chain, I bet you'll enjoy it.
Hey, people are people, some pamper their pets, some don't care about them at all or not enough. Not everyone has to love animals but if you don't like them, don't have them to begin with.

Not come across that before. Normally drowning or just abandoning.

found a dog like that in Britain once. It was the plastic bag over the head bit I hadn't heard of.

Mind you, a friend of mine in England found a mother cat and kitten stuffed into a bird cage and thrown into a bin.

Well, you'll find animal abusers pretty much anywhere you go but there's something else I'd like to ask you Marek, you seem to be very negative toward the country you live in. Why do you suffer so much? I bet Poland will appreciate a patriot like you to come back and constructively help your motherland on its way to become more successful. Nothing to insult you, just a suggestion.

I like your attitude, you don't like Norway so you're going back to Poland instead to suffer and constantly show your disapproval. Leave Norway to those who enjoy it.
