After all the hype for the new soap "Londynczycy" ( I read about it in the States!) how was the premiere last night? Accurate depiction of the Polish immigration in the UK?

Ahahaha... I'm glad that there's a thread about this. I'm just back from Poland, and saw loads of posters for this TV show. Tell me more about it...

I watched it with curiosity. Personally I enjoyed it.

Well it's the first episode so really they were just introducing the characters and setting the scene. There is a girl who has gone to London to be with her boyfriend who turns out to be a drug dealer and already is getting her in trouble, there is a guy who has moved with his son to be with his wife (who's already been there 6 months). There's a couple who work in a bar (although they had a bust up). As you can imagine most of them live in Ealing and there's lots of shots of red buses driving about...

any nice examples of Poles living in London with a positive story? nah that's bad tv and everyone in Poland would get too jealous ha ha.

well they showed an interview with the producers/directors etc before the show and one of them said that they would show the ups and downs of living in London and there would be some dramas but also some happy-endings.

Apparently some of the crew spent one year living in London themselves beforehand to try and make the show more authentic.

Given that I am from London (and my Polish wife worked there) we are very interested by this programme and curious to see how they portray life there etc...

But maybe it's just a sad indictment of my life that my highlight on a Friday night is sitting at home watching TV.... I must be getting old!

Ooh hang on - it's Saturday today - that means it's 'mam talent' tonight!

I thought it was gonna be a comedy. Still good though, and better than 'Tylko Milosc', 'Trzeci Oficer' and 'Twarza w Twarz'.

I caught a couple of minutes of this programme. I liked the use of English and Polish language. The short piece that I saw seemed almost like a language teaching aid. Did I just catch it at a certain point in time or is the whole programme a mix of language ? In the clip that I saw we got an English stereotype opinion about Polish girls. The polish guy quickly put the other guy right.

They could use that idea for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Polish Edition, in which Willy Wonka has cute happy Poles working in his factory, because they work harder for less money then the "Oompa-Loompas". ;)

Sounds pretty good to me. Anyway, why does a TV drama have to be happy? Especially in Poland. Poles love chatting about misery. I read a statistic that the average Pole laughs 3.2 times in their life. Very serious race, the Poles.

just cos i've got good hair doesn't mean it has to be fake. some people lack that and they need hair extensions or wigs, i consider myself fortunate :)

Well, your UK experience wouldn't be very televisual. Broadcasters want angst and struggle. It's a shame that TVN or TVP or whatever don't do a proper fly on the wall documentary of the Pole in the UK. Maybe a factory worker, a doctor, a shop manager and a policeman (are you listening TVN?)

Yes I see the setting .A factory worker is looking in M&S for Xmas presents for the family, when suddently he is persued by a schizophrenic doctor, who is not a real doctor but thinks that he is, the policeman, who has been sent to monitor the situation realizes that the factory worker is infact his polish twin separated at birth. The shop manager physically restrains the doctor only to re-establish homosexual tendancies that have been dormant for many years. Shall I continue!

It is filmed in London (exterior shots) and Warsaw (interior shots). The Polish production company is 'Besta Films' and the UK production company is 'Twilight Films'. I don't know how they hire extras, but I do know that they source them separately for each country, so contact the appropriate company for your country!
