Mothers day in Poland

Yesterday, I the dutiful son took my old dear out for a mothers day lunch
( pauses..waiting from murmurs of approval and clapping from all mothers on the forum...).

I went with my missus, my old dear, her boyfriend and one of my best friends and his old dear.
This morning a 3 am I stumbled out of the Fridge bar in Brixton, off my head, with my missus seeing double and also off it.

The question you may be wondering is how does one go from a mothers day lunch to ending up in Brixton in the early hours. This is exactly the same question I have been pondering all day.

Did anyone else make the effort and what is the date for mothers day in Poland.

For the first time ever I deliberately didn't pester the boys to remind them about Mother's Day. The eldest one sent flowers via teleflora from Canada, the middle one sent a card and some music from Uni and followed it up with a call once he got up from his St Pat's Day revelries and the youngest one made breakfast in bed for his Mum. I was dumbfounded but very proud of them.

No doubt the begging letters will follow but for now, good on 'em.

It was celebrated in the UK a couple of weeks ago though.

Mother's Day in Poland?

As a long-time student of Polish language and culture, I'm well aware of the famous "Dzień Kobiet" celebrated throughout much of the Slavic-speaking world. Is there though any corresponding "Dzień Matki" (Dzień Matek??? gen. pl. as in "Women's" rather than "Woman's Day"!!) in Poland, or rather, is it a Polish-American invention?

I was struck by Mother's Day cards in Polish being sold in our local Polish superette and became curious, since it didn't seem terribly Polish to me:-)

Much appreciate the reply!

Well, we celebrated it always when we were kids / children (me and my brother) now less, but mother always deserves respect, so if it's her day I will at least call her. Now that we see each other seldom, maybe we will take her out somewhere. Yes, it is celebrated, however not that much as Dzien Kobiet.

A friend of mine from Cuba, said that in Cuba that go congratulate on this day to every woman who has given birth - in Poland I congratulate just my own mum!

We celebrated it in the US on May 10th. Now all I gotta do is get to Poland before May 26th and celebrate it again.
Yeah right....
