My interest in Polish TV has been revived a bit. Or is it all like all the other "top model" programs, full of annoying, not-very-attractive women?

More attractive than the contestants from what I've seen (which isn't a lot)

Ah c'mon now - I mean she's certainly not ugly!

Although no, not my type - too "Californian" looking.

Anyway, surely her name should normally have an extra syllable, the Polish way - no?

Is Joanna not a westernisation?

no. Joanna is full name and we read it "Yo-anna". Diminutive forms are: Joasia and Asia

Are you absolutely sure?

That means I socialised with a woman for about a year who had a made-up name - and according to her, many of her countrywomen are also using this made-up name for some reason.

Maybe you hear it wrong way. There is double nn and we read double nn. "Yo-an-na" not "Yo-a-na".

Because that's how we roll in Polandia...
Katarzyna - Kasia- Ka¶ka
Joanna-Asia-Joasia-A¶ka
Małgorzata-Małgosia-Gosia-Go¶ka
Zofia...
Maria....
and so on...

That was just her stage name, tip better :)

Of course, same format. Lather, rinse, repeat. Just keep it on ESPN Classic or one of the cartoon channels, and you'll be alright.

Bizarre. She was quite emphatic about the pronunciation - mentioning the resemblance to banana etc.

What about this then?

Check her driving license and send me 100 Euros, because I can bet it's Joanna ;)

rofl! Good job sharing your experiences in gentlemen's clubs/brothels!

Hey, you knew exactly what I was talking about :)

It seems like this whole top model thing probably works out pretty well. There are also those recruiting and agency things set up in the malls looking for models and "hostesses". What is that exactly? I mean, the model part I understand, is hostess just another way of saying pretty girl to stand next to whatever I'm trying to sell?

Watching all those videos I have to say that they all are not comfortable talking to the camera and their Polish, especially accent, is strange. What with this accents on last syllable? I noticed this during my last visit to Poland, too.

Polish language is evolving? Becoming westernized?

the show has been running a few weeks now. most of the girls/women are too skinny. one or two have meat on the bones. one or two are clearly good looking, but the rest are ordinary.

when they have make-up on and are photographed for the special tasks most of them look hot, which i guess is the point of being a model and the show.

this weeks winner normaly looks like any other young woman, but for the photo shoot she clearly had something the others didn't.

the presenters are full of themselves and can be quite irritating at times. however, they are doing a job in a particular field of work that demands such types. i quite like all of them now.

those involved have to get their kit off, work with animals and be prepared for any other aspect of their trade.

the stess some of these women go through is very clear.

most people either love or hate this type of show. if u get to see it the photos that are discussed and shown in the final segment are sometimes a lesson in photography and what is possible.

as reality shows go this is one of the better ones.

No, rather the sign of language sloppiness.

Clearly they put their time and effort into being lovely. A girl doesn't need education if she is hot enough! :p
