commandments 5,6,7,8 and nine seem to reflect the law of the land. therefore, most people follow them. There is understanding that some commandments are difficult to follow in modern society. This would be true of any religion, yes ?

I don't think. I know. I know God never appeared to me, and I know God never told me anything.

What do you think God looks like? Something like in your avatar? :) I would be highly surprised if you were to meet "God" and he would look like that :D I doubt if he ever spoke anyway. But "God" as concept is only good for ppl who believe in it. For all others, it's just an empty phrase, something that is used to explain what ppl with their limited capabilities can't explain.

*Edit: remembers Hans Teeuwen's (Dutch comedian) explanation of God and what happened when he went up to heaven. :)))

**Edit2: I really like Wroclaw's new avatar. I wonder if this grumpy gentleman (or is it a lady?) is actually in Wroclaw's possession...Or should I say wheter Wroclaw is in possession of this grumpy gentleman/lady? :)

Many of the 10 commandments are simply ways to help society function smoothly and would exist (not stealing, not killing etc.) whether religion, or god for that matter, existed as the world realises that such laws are necessary. Some of the commandments are morality based (not committing adultery, honouring parents etc.) and such laws are like a social glue that holds societies together and would and do exist in societies regardless of religion. The other commandments are laws invented by the Christian religion as a way of creating and enforcing identity, loyalty, obedience, fear etc just as many other religions do, Islam included.

You can lead an apparently Christian or Muslim life simply by following the laws of most countries; it is only the quirks and man-made additions to these laws which create and identify religions: not eating this or that; praying in this way or that way to this saint or idol, god etc; fasting and celebrating at certain times etc. The fact is that although Poland has high church attendance the day to day behaviour of the people is not noticeably religious any more than you could come to the UK, where church attendance is low, and feel it is a less religious country. This is because the most important laws by which people live are non-religious laws and provide a sound base from which society can function without the interference of religion.

You can generalise about all religions in that they all have gods, laws, beliefs, forms of worship of varying similarity and do not like their members to question these laws, but the fact is that it is society's laws, rules and mores that are the most important ones as these are the ones which most affect the way society functions. In my opinion purely religious laws often only create divisions in society and as such should be practised by a religion's adherents without trying to force such beliefs on others and trying to add them to the common-sense secular laws that many countries abide by.

Give me a break. Just like Christianity, muslims can't even agree on what the frikken book says. One camp says one thing, another camp says another. Who is right... The Taliban, or People like Cat Stevens. Different messages, supposedly from the same book.

Fredchopin brother!
i know every one says his religion is original.
but i think in west there is no chritian Rules or Law.
it is democrative laws not come from Bible or Quarn....
tell me where is bible (God's word) is rules any one chirstian country?
but Islamic Laws are ruled in Saudi Arabia and Iran.
Taliban is not Islam or Quran....
any one can make group in the name of Religion but we ca not blem on Religion or majority people.
there were lot of Christian terrorrist Orginations even some exist but we can not say that Christians are terorrist but a bunch of peopel who claim Muslism or Christians but are out of Rules of Holy Books.
th eway fo prays, fasting or other acts of worships come from God, peopel can not make these kind of Worships.
yeh it is true that in many religionspeople changes the real sprits of worship but it does not mean that God does not exist!!!!
i hope you understand.

What is your point Ateeq? Explain to me why and how a country governed by Islamic law is any better than a Christian country which has laws that have been developed over thousands of years but which allows people to worship who they want in what way they want, or even to have a belief that there is no god, as long as it does not adversely affect other people?

Ateeq:

And your point is? Are you saying these Islamic countries are better countries to live in than western countries? Are they freer of crime, corruption, hypocrisy, domestic violence etc and all the other things such as these which afflict all societies? I'd be interested in your opinion Ateeq.

Better be an atheist for you.

Its better to be anything but a Muslim nowadays. Beware, its a religion, which was once prosperous and living. Now its dead and doomed.

As Christianity is, I feel. It is fragmented and ineffective. Islam is heading that way too but Christianity has a 1500 year headstart. People always seem to focus on the influence Islam has/will have in western countries and the conflicts it can create within those countries but I think Islam's biggest problem is convincing westernised Muslims that old-style Islam is best: these are people who have seen how people can still practise their faith and have the benefits of democratic non-religion based government. Everything changes and evolves and so will Islam. Islam is the new product claiming to be additive free, original and best; but time will change it. There will always be extremists who will give Islam a bad name but I think most western Muslims are apathetic to the aims of the old-school Islamists.

Only if you base modern society on 7th century Arabian mores. Poland doesn't fit that model in many ways and so there's no reason for Poles to feel attracted to Islam.

There's no such thing as a "Christian country" in the way that there are "Muslim countries".

Predominantly Christian societies allow for people to change religions according to their individual conscience. No predominantly Muslim country does.

This is one reason Islam doesn't appeal to many people in the west.

I agree for 100%. Even in my neighborhood there are few different religions and some atheists too, so we cannot say that there are Catholic countries in full meaning of this
Muslim countries are different, there is other mentality here in Poland

Exactly

still_wisher:
simply someone came and claimed that he is almost a God

Mohammed did the same. When people kissed His hand (showing alegiance with His faith), He said that they kissed God's hand.

Baha'u'llah claimed with PROOFS from Christianity (proofs which are startlingly accurite) and also from Islam...from Jewism etc. He actually did fulfill promises.

Plus... its not just any religion. One of the fastest growing in the world, with adherents in every country in the world... with a representative in the UN. Working actively for the development of women, children and healthcare around the globe. Thats a religion buddy.

If you dont know about it completely... dont try to make stupid comments. Specially that you are a muslim... your animosity towards this faith smells similar to terrorism. Though I refrain to consider all muslims as latent terrorists.... you must help us with your activities and behaviour too...so that we are able to consider you are humans...

Ateeq,

What's your feeling on religious freedom based on individual conscience?

What do you think about people from different religions marrying?

What do you think about a person who decides they prefer a different religion to the one they were raised with?

Which is more important, what a person does or what a person believes?

A muslim girl getting married to a christian catholic man :) ... this format of the question is better.

Incase that person was raised a muslim... that is a beter question.

BAHAI FAITH ... its a religion much persecuted by Muslims. Still its spreading like a jungle fire. And its beliefs are most beautiful and peaceful. Its logic and proofs are wonderful, logical and trustworthy.

stop making adds !! and i know enough about this Bahai faith to make me feel glad im far away from it, you call it religion which i can find most of people here dont know about it , or at least someone would make one comment ! and thanks for your honest feelings that all muslims are terrorists ! a comment like this shows how smart you are !! if you don't like a religion you don't have to curse all its people ! or maybe that what is your faith is teaching you ?

this the point which everyone wants to hold it against islam , the orignal in this that it's not allowed totaly to change your religion from islam or a muslim girl to get married to other religion person , all of you know that already and all of you know that there aren't such a christians country with this christian law ! but there are islamic countries with their law so simply with growing of ages you can't apply a part of law and the leave the rest which i guess most of islamic countries do that , you don't like the law, religion ,.... leave the country or you're simply looking for truobles! God gave you brain and showed you the way so you deal later with god with your own!
