Polish people and Catholicism? That's the most absurd thing I have ever heard! We all know they're buddhist and shintoist by vast majority.

Gosh!

I always thought those statues of a woman and baby with candles around, were voodoo dolls.

Believe it or not, where I was born and raised in Louisiana alot of people mix their Catholic religion along with voodoo. No joke, lol.

a very good debate. This is great viewing for those who want to learn about Catholicism, what it is and what it isn't. This is part 1 of 5

I have found that many put their children through the relevant ceremonies which is good. However, why did the level of faith drop after JPII? This is interesting as I would imagine that Scots would go more to church in his memory (of an equivalent figure, of course). Life is complicated and there are other factors but still....

I'm back with a new shovel :) The family influence ensures that religious fervour is rekindled.

Well, of the dozen or so Poles that I know well, and I realise this may not be a representative sample, it is fairly evenly split between devout, ambivalent and atheist/agnostic.

That's a fair point, Zeti. I remember watching the reactions of Poles to the appointment of the German Pope. They weren't too favourable. JPII was a figurehead and Poles were quick to stress his birthplace in Wadowice. It was a body blow to them when their revered icon died.
