Do Polish people help one another?

You want a comment?! I tend to find an extreme here. Some are very helpful indeed whereas others are very unhelpful. In general, I wouldn't describe most Poles as helpful but you see them do extended translations here for free. It just depends!

yes, they can lend you some thought, according to their qualifications or interests, but in my opinion they seem to be less practical in helping people the practical way, sometimes i have a feeling like they're deprived of compassion

It depends how well you know them. The ones close to me are super and go out of their way to be friendly and assist. If you are talking about shops and general service, then many fall short. They tend to serve you begrudgingly and say 'do widzenia na odpierd*l siê). It just depends! Some are really nice!

Well, people around the world use assets to get what they want. I can help with English and life is like a contract, I can accept or refuse their offers.

Poles can be very curious but largely to know what you think of their country. They help you if they feel you can help them in return.

If you are talking about helping strangers on the street that it has nothing to do with knowing them. It's natural we help our family, friends, neighbours etc.
Most of Poles are distrustfull and maybe that's the problem.

Generally the ones that have travelled a lot or lived outside Poland are really helpful as they seem to have absorbed some of the western european culture, The ones who havent seem to take more pride in causing problems for people than helping.

i always have a feeling they expect me to be someone without mercy, this is when they bacome nice to you, the way to put it is....they respect authority... i know my family and i know what they are like and i don't think they are any different, it's really difficult to find feelings in poland, bla, bla...well, this is my experience, bit too much out of proportion maybe, but...
it's jst a strange experience

Dnz has a point there. Those in administration love complexities as it keeps them in a job. They tend to complicate matters and don't make them as smooth as they should. I have had a couple of positive experiences with clerks here but they tend to be anal and pedantic.

Anal clerks?Not so much.It is more your ass on stake when you deal with them.

Or so they would like you to feel. I was there for services and ones which I was entitled to so they needed just to follow procedures and get on with it. Quite a few have assisted really well in administrative offices but largely because I have had Polish people with me at those times.

Speaking for myself but it should give you a perspective on things I find that opposite is true. My parents instilled this idea in me but since I did traveled abroad I find myself to be less inclined to help a complete stranger. I’ve been taken advantage of, used by others etc, etc. The western attitude “it’s not my business” rubs off on you plus when you hear a Polack joke one too many times you start to develop this “F*** them all attitude” if you know what I mean.

Sounds like they are doing their job well to me.

The younger generation in Poland is more helpful than the older generation. Atleast thats been my experience. Ofcourse this could be due to the face that very few of the older generation speak english. but some of the younger ones are a pain too. Ive met some who just want ciggies or a zloty even before you ask a question.

I'm portuguese and so far my experience with poles is that the majority is helpful and kind. No complains from here!

Some are about as helpful as a punch in the face. When a culture comes to be hard-nosed and selfish then helping others becomes difficult. Still, many have overcome that and have worked towards endearing themselves to those around them.

A key observation is that many Poles cannot reconcile their romantic visions with reality and that's why they up sticks and leave.

yeah, like the people they employ in bars or as a security, i doubt they even finished primary school, they think world revolve around them
