How can you live in a foreign, completely strange country without trying to learn the language of a country you decided to settle down in?

My father have lived in US for about 18 years and didn't bother to learn english at all. Why he didn't need it at all. He was working for Poles (his very good friend) and only for them. All he need was Polish in work. At home he hadn't English friends only Polish. I was in UK for 8 months and didn't say a word to English-man, well it happens.

Babylon, there are lots of people like your father in the US. Personally, I can't imagine a life in a foreign country without the language, but it can be done. There are polish employers, doctors, dentists, all types of polish stores, restaurants, travel agencies...you name it.

One can live quite comfortably in their own polish world in the middle of a huge, English speaking city...

Hmmm do polish people steal alot?

Or

Do people steal alot?

Lets stop talking about you and I and the general populations of the world.

Theft is carried out on a scale most of us cannot or refuse to imagine.

Example. Putins government manufactured explosion over Russia, blamed it on the Chechyens and STOLE THE ELECTION.

Enron, the executives stole billions of dollars from their shareholders.

Boris Beresosky stole billions from investors in his projects during the cow boy 1990's

Where has all the Tsunami aid for the affected areas disappeared too?

Where did all the IMF loans to Russia disappear too.

Infact where's all the f@@king EU developments grants going too?

BAA Systems and the money to the Saudi's (in bribes) this is also theft.

Whilst we condemn the small, the weak and the poor for petty theft.
We are having our rights, our privacy and our wealth rob from us by governments acting as lackeys for big buisness.

And tax that is bloody theft.

Blair announces a new fleet of nucleur subs, who pays us. Do we need or want it? Nope, but the arms companies will recieve our money THEFT.

People believe corruption is wrong, well here is the twist corruption is the only thing that keeps us from being totally locked down in a totalitarian state. It is the only means that and violence for the little man to have a chance to ascend and join the big snakes.
Read your Chomsky .

I think this question goes for everyone not only polish people there are good people out there and not so good and honest people out there so you can not categorize polish people that are idiots and steal and put the rest of the polish population down becaue some of them steal and the others don't!!!

I got ripped off again at Polish construction supply center. Today my ladder was
missing last time it was some lumber before that was my bungee cords. They even
once stole my magnetic business signs. What would they want with my signs? I dont think its Polish beople that are born here but mainly the immigrants.
This doesnt happen to me when I am shopping in other neighborhoods.

Round and round in a circle we go, where the answer to this question lies nobody knows! Unless.... we just examine it from a dry logical perspective.

So your question is: Do Polish People steal alot?
The question is a bit vague. Are you asking do all Polish people steal alot or just some? What kind of gauge are we going to use to determine "alot"?

Maybe we can rephrase your question? How about:
"Do Polish people have a disproportionately higher or lower rate of thievery per a randomly selected sample."

Now we need to select a gauge. What will we compare this rate to? How about we compare them to a hypothetical group we will call "X".

First, we determine what the rate of thievery is for group X, then we determine what the rate of thievery is for the Polish group and you have your answer.

Practically speaking, the reason Poles have a stereotype of being thieves is probably because a higher proportion of my people do engage in thievery then the group of people you grew up in or are used to living among. Pretty simply stuff. Not that hard.

Does this offend me ? Not if it's true. I wouldn't want you to go around stating that all Poles are thieves, but if you were to be more cautious around Poles with your possessions I would think that a prudent decision.

How prudent? If you engage in simple theft prevention techniques you should have no problem. Use a lock on your ladder, lock your car door, don't leave valuables in plain view..etc.

Isn't it German propaganda/prejudice?

We Polish people have had our share of controversies with the Germans. I believe everything from the past should be put aside and welcome our Nordic brothers and sisters.

He was told by many ppl that when he comes to PL, he must be very very cautious, because in PL ppl steal a lot, espacially if someone is a foreigner.

That is a really deeply ingrained prejudice in German speaking countries sadly, in my experience.
I told some people I knew I had a Polish gf and the initial response was always one of pity/concern for me. (If I went to PL with her, my car wouldn't be in my possession long, she's probably just after money then they'd launch into anecdotes about the trouble with Poles etc)
Regularly on German tv there are slurs against the poles, they seem to be the German equivalent of the Englishman's Welshman.

Worst offender? Oliver Pocher. My ex used to spit if he even appeared on the tv.

I sea. That poor guy was realy scared. It was funny and sad in the same time.
I didn't know what to tell him, really. I told him nothing like this (stealing, robbery) has ever happpened to me in my whole life. And I was born and raised in Warsaw . He said- maybe I was lucky...

read your past properly. And what about this OUR NORDIC...etc? What OUR Nordic?...read about it .... and go stay in germany

Yes, exactly.
I welcome our "Nordic bros and sisters" here.
The problem is they seem to have false image of Poland.
They guy I was converstaing with was scared of speaking in English to me while walking through most expensive, beautiful and historic streets of Warsaw in the afternoon.
What a paranoia!

I think that this is kind of prejudice. In UK noone says that Polish people steal....ok they can get drunk...live together in big groups...but in general they work hard and don't cause much trouble.

I think that for German we are all poor and thieves...

It makes me smile when they say that noone likes Polish...What about them?

I don't want to sound mean but they are the least liked nation in Europe.

"Do Polish people steal alot".

"Its like asking a man do you still hit your wife."

The question is a condemnation. Totally out of order.
Rubbish question.

It's not condemnation, more presupposition.
It presupposes that they do steal, but you want to know how much they steal. Like "do you still have sex wth your dog..."

Still, agree with you mate:

There are thieves everywhere.

I disagree. The question is vague, but sensible. There is also a valid answer to the question. See post #42.

Well according to the daily papers the Uk is the most crime ridden and London the most dangerous capital. We've had three murders over the weekend in Town and its just par for the course. i'm sure if you check out how many Polsh nationals were in trouble with the law I bet the number would be minimal.

I shall confess. The list:
tootpaste, several chocolate bars from a store, found wallet with cash and id but returned ID only - cash stolen, cash from cash register at work, food and other stuff from work, lost book from library didn't pay fine, rode bus with no ticket (still do from time to time), stole some cash from my mama's purse long time ago. Over all I've been clean for last years with exception of stealing from bus company in my town. Oh, and once I had asked an office clerk to triple the number of working hours on my card, she did it and I got paid three times as much as I shoold (LECH beer company btw)
That is a lot!!! OMG

This is the stupidest thread I ever seen. Listen, Germans accused Us - Poles that we are robbers, but They robbed France, Spain in World Cup Handball 2007 in 1/2 and 1/4. Germany is the 5th richest country in the world, and Poland so poor due to German demolition and all what happened next so it is possible that sometimes Poles are in Germany and steal something, but I can add that Dutch peoples are saying that in the time of German occupation of The Netherlands Germans made a lot of robbers of bicycles (buahahaha).
