How's the Polish punk scene? Any listening recommendations for Polish punk or garage bands?

That's interesting, was the music political like the first wave of punk tended to be? I generally don't care for the newer stuff. I really dig early California and English punk.

It's still related to politics in general, or to anarchy. Hasn't changed much since many years there. As an example, this video shows it all (eg. shows the relation of Polish politics to punk music):

Thanks for posting that--what's the name of that band? Was punk actively suppressed preceding the fall of communist rule in Poland?

I think they are called "Moskwa" (Moscow). The more Polish punk was suppressed, the stronger it grew; that's a specific of punk in Poland :).

from the 80's I should add first of all Armia, also a lesser band: TZN Xenna,

I already forgot 1984, but I never got the impression they played punk, and Brygada Kryzys wasn't "pure punk" either, mostly reggae
there waso als Śmierć Kliniczna, which rather played ska not punk (like The Clash in many songs).
I guess we have 2 definions of punk - a social movement (where most of the mentioned above bands belonged) and more strictly a rock music genre

anyway, budzin, I only have some vinyl albums/singles with punk music, so I won't help you much, but if you want some samples other bands of the Polish independent (as independent as it was possible under communism of course) rock scene from the early-mid 80s I could send you a few mp3 from the 4 following bands (when I have time to rip the CDs)

Brygada Kryzys
Siekiera (unfortunatelly I have only one CD, after their punk period)
Maanam (early Maanam, they later became more lyrical, less aggressive)
Klaus Mitffoch
it's a shame but I don't have more Polish music on CDs :(

I would really like to hear those!

On a related note, was there a distinctly Polish Punk Poster graphic style that can be associated with the genre? I am a big fan of Polish Posters--I can only imagine how some of these posters or fliers might have looked (if they were ever produced).

By a tick

Youve got to get the head out otherwise they just keep burrowing. If you pull them out give the head a twist. You can always make sure by burning them out with a cigarette if you prefer !!

not exactly Punk, but (imo) quite interesting (for me they are much more worthful than 'modern' punk songs- because those songs were created during change time, in late 80's and early 90's...)

"czarna apokalipsa" (='black apocalypse')

"i jeszcze raz, do końca" (='and once again, till end')

and 2 my favourites:
"baby, can i hold you?"

'blue'

I like 'Miguel and the Living Dead' to a point. I'd say they're Death Rock, a subset of Punk, but their sound can be varied.

Gothic Rock, but still worth a listen and very good live.

I wouldn't classify it as a 'gothic rock' (i.e. early CDs), its rather new-wave or something like that. definatly not gothic rock :)

from the band's website: ''Their music is appreciated by listeners young and old: metal-admirerers, gothic-lovers as well as pop music fans''.

which, i guess, makes us both right.
