I believe that the Polish received a great eduation under the communist era is this true?

Slowly imagine the concept of censorship, denouciations, and SB aresting people who did not share the traitors' version of economics, politics, literature, and history.

From what I can see Poles are well educated.

But best in the world? That's stretching a bit to say the least.

By what criteria or standards? Can't imagine a communist education was very balanced for a start.

Then you get on to 3rd level. Many here mightn't like this but from what I've been told (by Poles I hasten to add) cheating was and is widespread in Polish universities. By cheating I mean being advised the content of papers in advance, being more less told answers - that kind of thing.

I have to agree, many Polish people are highly-educated. The majority of my family members have multiple college degrees, including myself.

Multiple college degrees means avoiding the real world. 1 or 2 degrees are enough to learn what you need to. The rest can be through home study or other options.

I think the OP is trying to make a point about the Polish edu system (which is severly lacking BTW) and you are a result of the US system so its not really saying anything

My parents had integrals obligatory in standard math course in high school. Poland had really demanding schools in those years and the teachers were really strict. Unfortunately now its not like then and i can agree with welshguy that modern school system in Poland (especially unis) are very lacking.

Yes, agreed, but for how long more?

We are on the best way to soften our education just to be similar to US.

Why?

No reason to. They have great specialists with excellent knowledge of a narrow area but lack a lot in the wider specter.

Of course, the dichotomy here is that everyone wants to go to an American university. How many are lined up to go to a Polish one? In comparison?

Unfortunately USA has good marketing. There are only 4-5 very good unis and they are all private and very expensive.

The few state ones are not so known...

But anyway, don't mix educations and economical reasons. ;-)

A great majority of my family were born, raised and educated in Poland. To this day, they still reside quite successfully in Poland.

Less is more (very often anyway). Just look at the situation in Poland, many educated people and most of them have to travel around the World to make a living.
I'm not trying to offend anyone here, it's just the way it is.

Yes and that's the chief irony.. If you have all these lofty IQs one would think you could make it work at home. Krauts and Japs have done it.

Let's call it a "business IQ" :-). Then again, there are many intelligent Japs and Germans.

As far as "lofty IQ's", well educated doesn't necessarily mean, they have a great IQ :-)

Well, the system is not always determining what a single student makes out of it. There are many well educated people around the World, coming out of generally rather average education systems.

You don't even need to be that smart to enforce a wage people can live on and basic laws to enforce it. This is how you create a middle class with subsequently grows itself.

Yeah but you're right, going back to the IQ thing.. a high one doesn't necessarily translate into wealth, often it does not. The IQ doesn't measure things like creativity, charisma .. so forth. Sense of humour? All things that matter a lot in business and leadership. The IQ is mostly about rapid fire decision making.. spatial reasoning. Like Calvin Coolidge said.. "The world is full of intellectual lay abouts".

Middle class has turned the education into a mess by lowering the standards so their offsprings can get degrees.There is enormous pressure from middle class to lower the standards which is described as social needs etc.
Their reason is a university without a big number of middle class and upper class offsprings has no value in the market.It may have academic value but not a financial one.We give you the money and the fame you give us the brains and nominations.Of course here in Balkans such attitudes don't work due to superior balkan power and mentality I don't give a sh1t about you or the country cut your throat.

There are significant correlations between general intelligence and creativity, also with a sense for humor, charisma too, ppl actually fall for IQ. Mostly those surveys are not known, ppl are not interested in that.Same factor (general intelligence) is responsible for convergent intelligence (scientific, one solution for the problem), and divergent (more solutions for one problem, creativity). Preferred way of solving problems is something you develop during childhood.
People prefer to believe those are different traits (makes talent divine feature), but think if it's possible to be stupid with good sense for humor, or charismatic and stupid, what is with art? How can somebody unaware of his reality create something with artistic value?
I never saw that (only those kids who paint, but their expression lacks meaning which makes art really art).
I don't like concept of IQ and it's abuse, but I believe that same basic capacities are behind all superior achievements (scientific or artistic).
