The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland?

What do you think about the right to own the guns? A good example of such a country is Switzerland, where every household has a real, honest-to-God full- auto-assault rifle and ammo on hand.

Coming from a country with so many gunshot deaths (USA), I shouldn't want to see the same thing taking place in Poland. Often a family quarrel will end in verbal abuse, shouting, throwing things or maybe a black and blue mark or two. If someone in a fit of drunken rage had easy access to a firearm.......

Switzerland is not a good example. You can't privately own an automatic weapon.

The Czech Republic is incredibly laid back when it comes to gun ownership. A large percentage of the population has private firearms, and everyone has the right to carry.

My opinion is that Poland should resurrect the AK and operate it like the Swiss operate their Army reserves. You would think with Poland's history they would have already done something like this. But Poles would rather depend on political alliances. Just like 1939 and than spend 50 years wondering why they were overrun.

The problem is that once guns are legalized, they inevitably end up in the hands of criminals. Then everybody else needs a gun, so they buy more, etc etc... I've had the misfortune of seeing two people get shot on two different occasions, and I can tell with certainty that neither one would be dead that day if guns weren't easily accesible.

Our current problem here in Europe is that guns are illegal for law abiding citizens, but accessible to criminals.

Now, I've had an entire handful of friends shot dead before I was 18. It sucks, I agree with you on that...but this all detracts from the entire reason why private ownership in the US is legal to begin with...

It's the last line of defense against intruders, opposing forces, and most importantly, the government. That is the primary reason for gun ownership in the US.

The problem with that chart is that suicides are included...distorts things a bit.

f stop, of course we are leading this comparison, we have the most guns of all and also by our population of 300mln, obviously we have more deaths caused by the use of guns than any other of those smaller and less populated countries.

Per capita the US also has way more deaths...Still, the point is that private guns are the last line of defense to a tyrannous or incompetent government. Tyrannous if they want to take guns away, incompetent if they have a problem with crime.

The fact of life is, that we always lived with guns and we handle them differently than Poles if they were in our situation. When I was in Poland, I observed how they act when they get really mad at each other after having too much to drink. With guns, I can imagine how those very lively "disputes" would end up.

We need guns just to stay safe but in Poland, I personally don't think it would be a good idea after what I've observed over there. Like I already said before, Poles (not all of course) are real hotheads when they get wasted.

One of the stock lines of the grabbers is that we no longer need guns to protect ourselves from Injuns. But the truth is that we now need guns more than ever to protect ourselves from the homies.
It is irresponsible to not have on hand the means to protect your loved ones. Any cowardly, anti-gun Lib males should be ashamed of themselves and can hardly call themselves a man.
