Sci-fi / Fantasy books in Polish?

Hi,

Does anyone know where I can buy popular sci-fi/fantasy books in Polish (suitable for a 16 year old)? He has already got the first Harry Potter book but I promised I would find him some more :o)

Never read his books in Polish but Solaris by Stanisław Lem is a must for any sci-fi afficianado. Coincidently I read it as a 15 year old ...in Swedish lol

Not sure if the website is what you're looking for but they have many books in Polish...

Lol no one understand Sci-fi literature. Not even in English..much less in Polish.

Lem is a well known hard science author - if he wants something lighter and maybe more heroic I'd suggest reading Jarosław Grzędowicz although his works might be a bit more adult aimed.. ( there's sex and violance in his books ). Marek Dukaj is a great hard science-fiction author especially "Księga pieśni"... as for something easier to read I'd suggest Maja Lidia-Kossakowska for instance "Siewca Wiatru"...
still those books are pretty violent.. except probably for Lem on the other hand Lems books tend to be more complicated and have hidden references mainly to communism.

I can't recall of any author that writes things similar to Harry Potter - that is youth literature. Most science fiction and fantasy authors write for adults, there's violance and sex in their books gonna be hard to find something similar to HP. On the other hand I did read Wiedźmin by Sapkowski when I was around 16, the book was really gory and had a lot of sexual stuff in it...

I second this recommendation! It's not too bad, considering other stuff that's available. There's also a TV series.

Not all of Stanisław Lem's book's are so called "hard" science fiction. His book entitled 'His Master's Voice' is quite challenging, but he also has more accessible novels such as 'The Cyberiad', and my personal favorite 'Return From the Stars'. I recommend you purchase the latter for your son. Besides which at 16 he is too old to be reading the childish Harry Potter series. Harry Potter is an exercise in Anglo wimpiness. As a Pole I'm sure you want your son to be better than that. The 'Futurological Congress' is also a great read, and although it concerns drug induced hallucinations, I know as a Polish-American that our people's ability to thrive on strong inebriants is much greater than most others. Your son should read Stanisław Lem!

I second that. My son read literally all of Lem one summer when he was bored. He borrowed the books from the local library and lived, slept, and ate amongst them ;-) He was about 12-13 at the time, and thoroughly enjoyed the read :-)

I was 23 or something like that when I read Harry Potter and I still think it's a very good read, it's not the top of the literature writing art - but it is so good to read, an easy relaxing jorney with adventures and such. I liked despite reading lots of more serious books don't simplify Harry, it's a good book for every age : )

For Lem I'd probably suggest reading "Opowieści o Pilocie Pirxie", one of the more youth aimed books by Lem..

PS. For 16 years old Wiedźmin Saga by Sapkowski would be great...
Lem of course is the best polish sci-fi writer of all times but some of his books could be intelectually challenging (but it is good thing, isn't it? :-) )
