to round the thread up, here's on 'sect', removed by the grace of the mod:

@ the mod:: FYI, 'sekta', a Polish word, translates to 'sect' in English. It's in the topic. Top of page, red letters.

Collins:
1. (Christian Churches, other) a subdivision of a larger religious group (esp the Christian Church as a whole) the members of which have to some extent diverged from the rest by developing deviating beliefs, practices, etc.
2. (Non-Christian Religions / Other Non-Christian Religions) Often disparaging
a. a schismatic religious body characterized by an attitude of exclusivity in contrast to the more inclusive religious groups called denominations or Churches
b. a religious group regarded as extreme or heretical

@1: It's difficult to prove that the RCC has diverged from the rest by deviating. The Protestants did, hence the name.
@2a: there was a Schism, right... and the Orthodox Church is The Church... but RCC is called Church by everybody since ever, so it's like in contrast to 'sect', isn't it.
@2b: extreme, hardly. Heretical, no way :)

OK, I think we can get rid of this thread now as religious topics should be avoided.

Thanks for the summing up, nott.

I'm happy to call it a day, too. In closing, let's not forget Dave Allen, however. He was actually hated and denounced from the pulpit by my Irish parish priest in the 1970s, ha ha. :-)

I think it's also the point that we'd always be treading on eggshells. Besides, allegations of RCC terror are bordering on the absurd. The insinuation is blasphemous and could easily be seen as offensive.

Not all religious topics are controvercial. From understanding of the crucifixion of Christ all knowledge comes. Just read Rene Girard's article Violence & the Lamb Slain and my thread on this forum: Is René Girard's thought a key to understanding the Bible?

Not my words, Adam. They are directly lifted from the rulebook. If one attempts to prove instances of Catholic terror, one is venturing into murky waters as such sources which delve into it are loaded and agenda-serving entities. That's just my two cents worth.
