Tauron Nowa Muzyka Festival

I’m planning on going to festival this summer in mainland Europe rather than in the UK. I have never been to a festival in Europe so I’m asking around for people’s thoughts and advice on where to go. A mate of mine went to festival in Poland last summer called Tauron Nowa Muzyka Festival and said it was great and good place to break your foreign festival virginity. Has anyone been to this festival?

I’ve been doing some research on Tauron Nowa Muzyka to get an idea of what the festival is like. I’ve found that the festival isn’t one of the biggest around but is slowly growing in attendance each year. Also as it’s not very big, it’s known to be as the best non-commercial festival in Poland and Central Europe. I know that TNM is predominately electro music and visual arts but are there any other attractions/things going on at the festival?

It's not the biggest but it's well known in Poland. If you like non commercial music that would be a good idea. I've never been there but I know (Polish) people who were there several times and were glad.

You can listen to the various artists at the site...Most of the music seemed of the dark 'techno pop' variety...I heard no real musicians playing instruments in the scheduled line up...

Here is what you will see, if you like this sort of thing;

xxx

Apparat Band 'leader'

Go to the site to hear 'the music'.

Cinematic Orchestra will be real musicians playing instruments. It's kind of jazz.

Actually you've checked line-up of the last year, not the current which obviously is not complete yet.

It seems that only Cinematic Orchestra is the only one set up for 2012 so far and they are defenitely not techno, joe.

yea, I've been the last 2 years. It's mostly electro/dance and some hiphop.
It's pretty well run, except for the bullshit that you cant use cash and have to use festival tokens.
It's right in the centre of Katowice too, there's a campsite and all near to it.

There's another fest a few weeks before it, OFF, it's more alternative/guitar orientated. OFF is also bigger, but whatever floats your boat music-wise, they're both really excellent festivals...I think OFF won an award for best medium sized festival for 2011.
