Truffles yeh, certain fish of course, but garlic? without research is there some kind of secret growing conditions and technique which makes the smelly stuff expensive?

I dont even know the price of it except that its not expensive, its one of those items i just throw in the basket without even checking the price.

It's not a secret that it's very difficult for foreigners to get a job in PL, if they don't have a rare skill that is highly demanded at moment.

With rare I mean something that not many Poles have. Since Polish companies prefers to hire Poles.

Not many schools offer that but he could find some demand in bigger cities, perhaps.

But then again, we're a relatively small language anyway. However, sb told me that Wroclaw Uni has a Dutch dept where they teach Dutch and Dutch history and so on. But that could be more out of folklore considerations than anything else. Or that every country has a seat in a University somewhere in Europe.

Although I dont like Dutch people so maybe dont come.

Tsk!

>^..^<

M-G (doesn't know which Dutch Uni has a Polish dept though - I know UvA has a Russian and Slavic one, so perhaps Polish is grasped into that as well)

It's better to get in-demand qualifications, even if it's not exactly what he'd like, than to be jobless and frustrated.

Contrary to popular belief, I'm not frustrated. (I will get there anyway!) I'm just pointing out how ridiculous it is when people tell you that there are no jobs, while everybody knows that there are jobs.

;)

CheFinny:
I dont know why people are always saying its a stuggle in Poland, it isnt. Rent is cheap, food is cheap and you will be able to get something.

I agree, if you're a creative person and you're not too arrogant, then there are plenty of opportunities.

And you think I care?

Its true! In the past foreigners were much more in demand but now Poles have their economy running quite well and don't need foreigners as before. If anything other countries could look at Poland's economy for pointers (that is unless the govt are just lying about the figures which could easily be the case). Even in teaching. Native speakers are mostly only useful for conversational classes. The lower level students are better off with the highly trained Polish teachers for grammar.

I almost never buy new clothes, preferring to go to Lumpeks :) I got 3 pairs of fine trousers for under 30PLN (together). They are like new :) Also, I buy food which is nearing its sell-by date and it's half price. It can be cheap if you look in the right places :)

wow, sounds like paradise.

Wroc³aw has a fully-fledged faculty of Dutch philology. Together with Warsaw it is the main centre for Dutch language studies in Poland. They cooperated heavily in the creation of the new 2-tome Dutch-Polish-Polish dictionary
