why is this unfortunate? British people consider it vulgar to discuss earnings so only Poles will possibly be interested,and I imagine they speak Polish.

It just isnt done. Why would anyone care what "you" are earning? Its only up their own backside arrogent red braces wearing city types that talk about earnings. How come? Just one of those cultural things... :)

fair enough, but as Bartalome said, those are examples and I posted this link for Polish people, so they will have an idea of what the reality is for some.

What the hell are you talking about now? All my British friends are for ever comparing wages, its actually the Poles who do not like dicussing monitery matters in any way shape or form.

i thought that was strange also, i'm heading to see a general gp tonight and its costing me 100zl.

I can see why the statement that it is "vulgar" to discuss earnings or why Brit's just don't do it is made as i recall from a child whenever i would ask "mummy" or "daddy" what they earned they would reply "it's for me to you and for you not to find out" or if i asked another adult what they earned they would laugh and my parents would say "don't ask that, it's their business!" which i never understood as a child, i'd often think "it's only money, why does it matter if i know what you earn, what hurt is it me knowing!?"
I still think this today to be honest. I'm from a middle class family and have no problem with poeple knowing what i do or don't earn! Maybe people are just too proud these days and think that you have to have more money than the next person to be somebody, personally i couldn't agree less! :)

I do not know about today's rates but Polish doctors used to earn very little indeed. Mind you, the medical care in Poland is dire and everybody dies very young indeed. The grave yards are full to over flowing. Better to stay away all together.

Really...because doctors in the past used to have to work for free. Honestly Michal, if you know nothing about current events, we really don't wanna hear about ur trip to Poland back in the 80s. Go get a job.

Today in Poland, it is very rare indeed to find man living so long. Sixty five is the max. It is the harshness of the life and also, I am sure, the lead in the paint! I have smelt it everywhehe in Poland. It is outlawed in England but the Poles love their lead paint. The smell is dreadful and God only knows what they are breathing in.

I think some are missing the point,obviously its an idea to see how much money you can earn in whatever line of work takes your fancy,that goes without saying,but,that is an entirely different thing to discusing what you earn with others.Like I say,without sounding snobby,maybe its a class/culture thing.

I have to agree with you on the not discussing money matters - I was tought that it wasnt polite to discuss such things and to be honest its not something I have ever discussed with friends or family

Not only the British, the Dutch as well. When I was in the US for the first time I was actually kind of appalled when somebody asked me directly how much money I was making. That's a private thing, you don't talk about it.

Do they fuk. We all want to know how much our friends and/or family are earning. Most of my friends tell me how much they make. Polish people on the other hamd are very cagey. Questions like: how much did that car cost, or how much rent do you pay are met with discust.

Having said that, I must agree, Poles will discuss their sallaries and it pisses me off when some of them ask me how much I make, like it's any of their fvking business.

Thats what I love about Holland. Meet someone in a bar or cafe in the UK its all " whats your name?where do you come from?and what do you do for a living? (not how much do you earn,more whats your social status...) where as in Holland the last question nearly never comes up,atleast,not as an initial gauge of a person.
