Hello people,
I just found that forums and decided to become member of it.
My name is Rafael, I'm 28 years old and I was born in Poland. Unfortunately I forgot most of the polish language 'cause I never used it since I'm living in Germany. I am looking for people to talk to. I'd like to learn to speak polish again, may anybody help me, please?
Kind regards,
sphinx/Rafael

And ...why not? Afraid of speaking polish?

Welcome! It's a good place to start here.

Hi. The best way to learn Polish is to get a Polish girlfriend.
Oh, but I forgot. It doesn't always works, because with that come too many distractions.

Thx a lot for that warm welcome :-)

I don't even know the reason why I didn't spoke polish all the time. Maybe I didn't want to, maybe there was no occasion, I just can't say for sure.
Of course, my parents can speak polish and I think they do at home, but I don't want to practice with them.

The business with a polish girlfriend... I don't think my wife would be excited ;-)

Oh, you mean she is not into manage-a-trois? just kidding.
Give your parents a call - speak polish. It will make them feel good.
I'm away from the polish language in my daily living for over a quarter of century, but I can manage it quite fine. Of course, it helps that I finished schooling in Poland...

I didn't ask her so far - you mean I should? ;-)

Maybe it would, but I'd like to do that later, have some inhibitions so far... Hard to explain why :-/
I think it would be better to learn it first and then to use the polish language when my wife and me travel with my parents to Poland and talk to my family there...

I'm bad....but it was a better idea than the other one I had: a Polish Boy-friend!!

Here's what else you can do:
Go to TVPolonia.com and subscribe to it then you can watch movies or the news in Polish. You live close, so you probably can get Polish radio.
Or go to byki.com and start learning on your own in your free time or sign up for a class if they have one or ask us questions.
I'm full of ideas, aren't I?

You're right, that one with the girlfriend was better ;-)

I'll try that one with the news, hope I'll understand it. Have 2 or 3 polish TV channels (via satellite) but as I saw one of them in the past there have been some talk shows (with a priest) and I didn't understand very much.

Sphinx

Nope. Don't ask her

You can't learn without practicing the language...if you want to know how to ask for directions or for a bathroom in Poland, you better start the learning process now..
Good luck!
There are some polish/english translations here. Might as well read them too.
