I am from a town in the UK called Reading. One of the towns favourite football players of modern times is Dariusz Wdowczyk who previously played for Legia Warsawa and Celtic before joining Reading FC. For us, he was a hero - a real class centreback and is very highly thought of amongst Reading supporters. I always wondered whatever happend to Dariusz and I recently found out he was involved in bribery allegations last year. Does anyone know anything about this or what Dariusz is doing now? - is he in management or coaching?

Thanks in advance for any info

He's been out from football federation for now and might return in some years only.
Wdowczyk has publicly admitted and apologized for his involvement in bribery while he was a coach for Korona Kielce. He said he had found himself in such environment that without corruption Korona had no chance to advance to top league, knew about money being handed to set up several matches.
In his - just yesterday - appearance on national TV guy looked honest and maintained some sort of class admitting his wrongdoing.
He has no license for coaching. Over 300 people were prosecuted in game fixing scandal (games prior to 2003), unlike Wdowczyk most avoided any contacts with media.

Thanks for the info Kowalski. Although I don't condone bribery, I do hope he makes it back in to football one day.

Over hundred charged with match fixing in Poland

The prosecutor’s office in Wroclaw has brought corruption charges against 113 football players, coaches, officials and referees as part of the widest-ranging investigation into corruption in the history of the game in Poland. The indictment sheet runs into 1700-pages and alleges corruption at several Polish football clubs, including Widzew Lodz, Zaglebie Lubin, Gornik Polkowice and Pogon Szczecin.

Is football in Poland really worth watching, nowadays?

Will it have consequences for EURO 2012?

Absolutely. After a little more housecleaning, maybe some of that trust can be regained...

Zaglebie Lubin

That's my team.....i even have a season ticket!
Corruption in football is a worldwide problem, even here in England, 'bang' issues are quite usual. However, it depends on the depth of the issue, which seems abstruse within the Poland game. Funny game, football, when players get on the pitch, all seems forgotten. So i would say, as a sport, yes, it's still worth watching.

I think the PFA has bigger issues to deal with in respect to the 2012 Euro champs than corruption.

no, it's dire, on the level of 3rd tire in England
It's a bit like the league of Ireland, if a player is any good they'll head to a foreign country to play more competitive football

I've been to a match in Ruch Chorzow, and another one in GKS KAtowice the atmosphere was electric to say the least and I had a great time, but the matches were terrible, I've watched a good few games on the tele too so I'm not basing it on those two games.

It's not very good, better off watching Premier League or Bundasliga if you wanna see entertaining football

*bracing myself for a hounding backlash*

Is bribery in Polish Football really news? It's just a given.

Polish football is the worst of any major country in Europe.

Marginally better than Azerbajani and Albanian football, on a par with Romanian league

Sure, the quality isn't great - it's equal to Scottish football, but it's entertaining enough and the quality isn't too low.

2nd tier, I'd say. The problem with Polish football, as with all 2nd rung nations in Europe is that the top league is good, but below that - it's rubbish. Same problem in Scotland, Holland Portugal and many more.
