Marcin Gortat of the Orlando Magic. He's played very well this season in the backup center role for the Magic, coming out of nowhere to be honest.

He got the start today in place of suspended superstar Dwight Howard and came up big for the Magic in there victory. With 11 points and 15 rebounds he's really building a name for himself and at the most important time - the post season/playoffs.

At this point he's the best Polish born NBA player ever and is only getting started. I would be surprised to see him not starting on a team within the next two seasons. Here's a little background information on him

Marcin Gortat (pronounced MAR-chin GOR-tat[3]) (born February 17, 1984 in £ód¼) is a Polish professional basketball player for the Orlando Magic of the NBA. He was a second-round draft choice of the Phoenix Suns in the 2005 NBA Draft and was traded for future cash considerations to the Magic. A 6'11" and 240 lb center, he is the son of boxer Janusz Gortat. Prior to his NBA career, Gortat started his career in £KS £ód¼, then he played 3 seasons in RheinEnergie Koln in Germany's Basketball Bundesliga. Gortat has a few nicknames in the NBA such as "The Warlock", "Polish Hammer", "Polish Prince" and "Polish Machine" .[3]

I think Gortat will be far from the starting lineup. He needs to play as DHo's backup for few years, and maybe if he moves to another team, he may have a chance. Just have a look at his career stats, he's good at reb and blk, not good at shooting (compare to Dirk Nowitzki or Zydrunas Ilgauskas), and passing (compare to Brad Miller). He's not extremely big like Yao Ming, not very physical like Chris Andersen (Denver).

But at least, he has potencial. All he needs now are experience as a pro, workout like crazy to be in game shape, training with def (reb, blk), and try to earn as much playing-time as he can. Look at Kevin Love, he's nothing better than Gortat, but he had a chance and he did quite well last season.

I hate all the commotion about it, I hate how every polish sportsman that comes out of our little polish hellhole and makes his way into some foreign league is suddenly a hero in here.. when he is at least mediocre in there. All those news about Gortat on tvn24, and there are probably hardly any people in states who know there's such player...

Is Marcin Gortat the best Polish basketball player ever?

He was pretty good playing for the Orlando Magic since being traded to the Phoenix Suns and becoming a starter he's improved vastly, lately he's been getting around 20 points per game with 15 rebounds.
