He claimed to not being "mentally attuned", a bit like David James and the PS episode. Subsequent reports suggested that Goram went off the rails a wee bittie. Still, another great keeper like Jim Leighton and Craig Gordon. CaleyJags, u got a good player from Aberdeen quite a while back, namely Dennis Wyness. I played against him at a tournie at Hazlehead Park in Aberdeen. He was sth else.

Yeah Dennis is a good player. When we signed him the first time from the Dons he was great in the first division then we sold him to Hearts, he didn't do so well there so we took him back but he seems to have lost his scoring touch although he performs well when he gets the chance from the bench.

I dunno about the Jags but that's one good thing about Aberdeen FC, they produce a lot of talented young players. Russell Anderson used to play for Aberdeen Grammar School (AGS), the same secondary school as I went to. He wasn't anything special but when he made the decision to go pro, there was no turning back and he really blossomed. The Dons have had their fair share of foreigners over the years, esp Dutch guys, but we need to set an example by drafting in young blood. There's an abundance of riches up in our neck of the woods.

Oh, btw, who is the best Jags player u have watched? At Aberdeen FC, legends include McLeish and Miller, Leighton, Strachan, McGhee, Bett, Mason and Nicholas to name but a few. Others like Robertson and Wright were good too but they became Huns. My personal fave was Hans Gillhaus. Ignoring his soap antics, his on pitch performances, early days, were sth 2 marvel at.

Thats a tough one as we were only formed in 1994 (i was a Caledonian fan before the merger with Inverness Thistle).

My top picks would be Charlie Christie (as a player), Barry Wilson, Barry Robson, Dennis Wyness, Bobby Mann, Mark Brown and Marius "The God" Niculae.

We have had great managers over the years like Robertson, Brewster and Patterson who you will remember being in charge of the Dons :)

Patterson was no Ferguson, maybe he just needs to chew on Wrigleys and things will begin to happen. Charlie Christie would be there or there abouts.

His presence in the SPL is wanted by many but I don't think he has made as big an impact on the international front. There is still heated competition for the no1 national jersey. Smolarek, on the other hand, is virtually guaranteed his place, even if his form dips a little.

Boruc will be Poland's number 1 for a good few years, Fabianski and Kuscaik do not play every week whereas Boruc plays every game for Celtic when he is fit.

Fabianski is a Pole who plays goal for Arsenal. He's only 22 and is coming on strong. To answer the post question, the greatest Polish footballer is Boniek, no question.

I care to differ. Lato was up there as well.

Best Polish modern footballer, is probably Smolarek or Krzynowek.

Listen, Lato was great. But Boniek was a magician. And a leader. Great, great player. I agree with Smolarek. We'd be nowhere without him.

I believe Brian Clough made the 'clown' comment about our great keeper Jan Tomaszewski who had an inspiring game that night at Wembley .... 17th October 1973 ! I was fortunate and very proud to have been at that game :o)

I never saw him at his best, but my grandad used to tell me that Włodzimierz Lubanski was one of Poland's all time greats ..... he scored the second goal in Poland when we beat England 2-0 in the qualifiers for 1974 World Cup. It was only a horrific tackle to take Lubanski out of that game by Roy McFarland that prevented Lubanski from playing at Germany 1974 WC and virtually ended his footballing career.

Boniek was a great player on a team that was aging and after the old guard passed, on a team that was average. Lato, Deyna, Lubanski and Szarmach were better than Boniek.

A famous and entertaining gaffe from a genius of a football manager.

Totally agree with that ..... unfortunately his outspoken style made it virtually impossible for him to become England manager.

Question for IronsE11 : Do you recall a Pole playing for West Ham in the 70's or 80's called Anton Otulakowski ? What ever became of him ?
