Hi,

With summer being there more or less, I'd like to go for long rides with a bicycle along the Wisła. From Krakow to Tyniec for example, there are great tracks to ride. Anybody would know about the price range for a spare bike? I don't need a sophisticated sport bike, just a simple one essentially for the city. And if you could recommend a reliable shop for that...

There is a shop near my blok, but they only sell new bikes.

Thanks

heh you can buy a new bicycle in a supermarket and if there's a bargain you can get one for around 60zlotys. If you wanna bike from a proper bike shop I'd be looking for anything between 800 - 2000zloty... I've bough a pretty good "casual"-city bike with a dynamo for 1800 year ago..
Not sure about Krakow though..

Oh by spare you meant used one, I'd say your closest bet would be to start skimming through allegro.pl... there are forums for people who trade used bikes too..

Yeah, I should have written used, or second-hand.
Thanks for your reply. I'll check that Allegro ;-)

I checked this weekend and yes, you can have a new one for 499zł at the Kaufland.

By the way, in Poland, do you have to register your bicycle and pay some tax? Just asking because that's how it is in some countries.

I think the best bet would be to head for the weekend market at Hala Targowa - lots of second-hand bikes being offered there and you can probably try before you buy, or at least have a good look at the condition before purchasing. Sure, some of them may be 'hot' but you can get a good deal. If you are not Polish speaking, it would probably be a good idea to take along a Pole to help you with any negotiations.

Definitely go at the place near Grzegórzecka Hala Targowa on Sundays - people sell pretty good bikes, mainly oldschool style, which are cheap and very convenient. I am actually going there soon to by one. Prices are 80 - 400.

So tell us, did you find yourself a bike at Hala Targowa?

Seriously? But you can or you must? In Poland you can register it at the police in case of theft, but it is not mandatory.

There were plenty of bikes, in good state I must say. And I could see that if there is a problem, the salesmen will quickly fix small things while selling it to you. There were actually several which caught my attention. But it was raining, didn't have time, and not that much cash with me, so I told the guy I'd buy one later. Which I will, for sure.

You can easily find cheaper - I've seen one even for 80PLN. Not the most beautiful but ok.

Sure, but they must be quite used, like with old tyres and stuff. I mean, many bikes I saw were in good shape, but the tyres were sometimes far from being new.

I checked again yesterday at the Kaufland and they sell new bikes at 500zł. I think I'll buy one from there. This way, I can get an invoice for sure because and I'll buy it on my company. Hehe. ;-) A good idea from my accountant. After all, a company can pay for its manager's travel from home to work.

Got a retro bike for 120zl today. Love it. If you see an Irish guy on a purple Hollander bike with a big smile on hios face give me a wave. :)))

the invoice is the only good thing, but I'd never buy a bike like that. Either a new, expensive and top shelf or a "Hollander" for cheap quid:)

The tires may be worn out obviously, but how often do you change them? Ride on the ones you buy and change them in a bike shop after some time, it's not expensive. And this bike from Kaufland would probably be a poor MTB or similar, not suitable for city at all.
