She's a Danish Pole, daughter of Polish immigrants. Whether or not her parents raised her to respect her heritage is another thing.

Here's an update on Caroline Wozniacki.

She just won her fourth New Haven tournament in a row. Only a handful of tennis players, including Serena Williams have been able to win 4 times in a row, a given tournament.

Hopefully she will be able to win a big tournament one day. The US Open starts tomorrow.

I read about an interview with Caroline's father, where he said Caroline is definitely proud of her Polish heritage. But he said the fact that she is also proud of her birthplace nation, Denmark, is only natural and does not diminish her pride in being of Polish ancestry. He is correct. I am proud of my Polish heritage but its only natural for me to be most proud of the nation of my birthplace......America. One does not diminish the other.

One can be proud of being Polish without "waiving the Polish flag" to everyone.

Polish TV claims her as Danish, not Polish. Her spoken Polish isn't quite fluent, as well.

Tell that to your fellow countrymen.

Polish TV is correct and Caroline Wozniacki is correct in identifying herself as being a Dane and not a Pole.

While she works hard on maintaining her Polishness, she is more Danish by her own admission. She said as much on Polish tv.

Hehehe. I meant that she keeps in regular contact with the language and she handled the interview with ease. She definitely embraces her Polish side.

It's a shame that she can't embrace Polish surname conventions though ;)

a) she played against Radwanska on Wednesday with Danish flag on her pendant - that's more telling than anything
b) unless a disaster occurs she'll lose her #1 ranking after Australian Open (she should totally plummet down the rankings before French Open, which is a fantastic thing for tennis)
