I suspect the KERS will the crucial feature of F1 this year so, with BMW's system looking good, I'm punting for Kubica this year.

According to the new rule, were they to be applied retroactively, Massa would have won the title and not Hamilton.

It states that the winner is the person who amasses the most wins and not the most points.

Im sure Lewis Hamilton will regain the crown, in terms of skill he has proven to be the best F1 driver out there at the moment.

I don't know, Alonso is a potential winner too. Seems that the car will be much better this season than last year. I wouldn't bet all my money on Lewis ;)
Ferrari, Williams and BMW will probably be good opponents too.

I don't believe this and I am so glad the bad language filter is in because this is a ****ing load of utter bull****.
I am really ****ed off with this bloody geriatric midget Bernie Ecclestone who is slowly ruining this sport.
This just shows you how stupid this idea is:
OK, here's a hypothetical scenario: Hamilton & Massa are tied on 5 wins each at the end of the season so we go back to points. Kubica with four wins and ten second places becomes champions as he has most points. Yeah, a really good idea Bernie!

I love the way they keep banging on about Massa clinching one more victory when we know he only clinched as many victories as clinched his butt cheeks at silverstone. Which was just five. The sixth was a gift from the FIA at the Belgian GP in Spa. Back to the point now. I think there are a few gaping holes in this scheme that will manifest themselves throughout the season. It's gonna be even easier for the FIA to tamper with the result now.

The worst part about this point system is that whichever team introduces KERS earlier in the season they will have a better chance of winning the championship early. It's not right for the FIA to decide now for the 09 season that the points system will be changed.

Many of the teams do not intend to start the season with KERS and now their entire campaign is ruined if they intended to introduce KERS later in the season. This only goes to prove that the FIA is an outdated disorganised rabble and should be disbanded as soon as possible and be replaced by a drivers organisation.

I am going to Yas Marina in The United Arab Emirates for the final race of the year hoping for a repeat of Brazil last year, after this I cannot see much point if the championship can be theoretically decided after nine races.

I completely agree, ukpolska. If it ain't broke, don't change it. That little weirdo needs to get his head out of his ass. I have always disliked the man. F1 tends to attract such self-confident jerks.

There is no real justification for tampering.

What if sb amasses shitloads of points for second places and only a couple of first places? That's still a good season. It's kinda like the first past the post system in politics where you award the winner and it's screw you Jack to the 2nd-placed person. Proportional representation is better. The same in F1. The new rule will disproportionately reflect the performance over the course of the season. Elitist wanker!

Is that really how it works? I presumed that if two drivers were tied on the number of wins, then the points system would come in to play, but only between the two drivers in question. That's to say (in your hypothetical situation) that either Massa or Hamilton would win the Championship depending on who had amassed more points!!

It's a bit of a joke system, without taking in to account that teams will clearly be backing one of their drivers from very early on in the season. It could well have the opposite effect desired (Although in Bernie's case the desire is clearly a Ferrari winner).

You're right, if 2 drivers have won the same number of races, they will take the number of points into account.
It means that we already know who will be the next champion. Hamilton, Massa or maybe Alonso. But we never know ;)

That's what I presumed Polson, but Ukpolska is saying that is not the case! If Massa and Hamilton are tied with 5 wins each, but have less points than say Kubica with 4 wins, who will the title go to?

Don't listen to Ukpolska! (sorry dude) I am the one to trust ^^ From what i read, if 2 drivers are tied at the end of the season, the one with more points wins! But i'd like Kubica to get the 'crown' ;)

Hmmm, yes but what if each driver has the same points as well as same wins, that's the point that Eddy Jordan brought up but no one had an answer to it lol

Common sense prevails :)
Formula 1 has axed plans for a new scoring system in 2009 just nine days before the start of the season.

Well, the joke continues. The new system has been dumped because its illegal (needs unanimous support from the teams for such a last minute change).

As for the effect on last years result - impossible to say because drivers race to win the world championship with points system in mind.

If the system had no effect on racing strategy they wouldn't have tried to introduce a new system would they??

Have they banned Ross's suppressor yet? Those new rear wings look cool. I wonder if you can buy one for an Audi roadcar.

innovation is always good I think. I know how much some of you guys enjoy F1 so I'll wish you all a good season's entertainment. I actually think this year should be the most competitive and open one for ages.
