Polonius3:
anyone ever heard of all-time sports greats Olympic sprinter Stella Walsh (Walasiewicz)

You mean Stanisława Walasiewicz? Not exactly one of the all time greats, only won two Olympic medals. And after death wasn't it found that Stanisława was very close to being a Stanisław, what with having a penis and everything. Something especially ironic given that the woman who beat Stan in 1936 was accused of being a man (I wonder which nation could have been behind those anonymous accusations) and forced to undergo a genital examination to prove otherwise.

rdw:
Didn't you guys know "Adam" of Adam and Eve fame was actually named Adam Polanski and was the world's first athlete? This started a long line of Poland being "first" and "best" at everything. Or at least that's what I heard over and over in Poland.

You hit the nail on the head there. Adam wasn't born in Poland, his parents were not Polish, he didn't speak Polish, he never even set foot in Poland but he's called Adam Polanski and was very good at something, so he automatically became as Polish as pogroms. And now the Jews are trying to put him in prison just because he drugged and anally raped a child!

10. Pete Stemkowski (Hockey)

this list is kind of entertaining. Only #2 demonstrates a sport that's even played in Poland. Nobody plays hockey in Poland and baseball and football are entirely American sports.

If you want to check out great Polish-American athletes, go to the website for the National Polish American Sports Hall of Fame and Museum.

Not in a class with Musial (Who is?) as a baseball player, but worth mentioning: Eddie Lopat, good Yankees pitcher in the 50's (166 career wins) was born Edmund Łopatyński.

Anybody remember Tony Kubek, who played for the Yankees Or Carl Yastrzemski, who played for the Red Sox? Not great, but damn good.

Larry Zbyszko - 80's wrestler

Robert Jaworski - Filipino basketball legend (born to a Polish/American father).

Great, I guess, in their own area of expertise :)
