Great individuals were born in Poland but unfortunately the country has in the past failed to provide them with the environment needed to develop their talents. Apart from C Wozniacki, who was trained in Denmark, think of Marie Curie (France) and many others. Agreed, most of the time is was because of historical circumstances beyond the control of Poland.. But if you agree that the most important is precisely that we are provided with the right environment in which to develop our talents (nobody has any responsibility/contro for where one is born), then CW should definitely feel more of a Dane than a Pole.

Here is an interview with a player in which she says interesting remarks about her ancestry .

Why do you want in Poland to be called Woźniacka Karolina but not Caroline Wozniacki ?
Karolina Woźniacka: Because that's basically my name. So it is here so natural.
The fact that I have Polish parents, means something for me . I feel that I have Polish blood in me , and I'm probably half-Pole. I think that first of all you can see it in my character. I play in Warsaw for the first time and I'm curious if the fans treat me like his.
Whenever I visit my grandparents I capture the unique calm around me, a totally different atmosphere than anywhere else in the world. Well, polish food. It is amazing, I love it very much, dumplings, soups, anything.

Thomas Kristensen says that Danes do not want Carolina just for themselves . The recipe for her success is mixed: the Danish base, facilities, plus the Polish stubbornness and obstinacy. Piotr Woźniacki at every opportunity emphasizes that for him the homeland will always be Poland. At home, they speak only Polish .
Karolina says country of parents is associated with the language, holidays with grandmother , smells from the kitchen and Chopin, because my dad taught not only tennis, but play the piano.

This thread title reminds one of the Swedish guitarist in the cartoon metal band Metalpocalypse who when told that their bassist has broken a Danish prince's nose with a headbutt says "Ha ha the Dutch."

For her to be half Polish total (bloodwise), each of her parents would also have to be half Polish total. 1/2+1/2=1 divided by 2 parents= 1/2 Polish offspring.

A sincere thanks PF, for putting up with me FIVE terrific years, muah!

I am actually a big tennis fan and I am always cheering for Karolina. For me she is as much Polish as Danish - she was born and raised in Denmark so she belongs to this country as well. What is her advantage in this case that she speaks fluent Polish (other players with Polish roots don't speak it so well and don't give so many interviews to Polish media). Polish is a very hard language and she speaks it almost error free. Plus her parents did not forget where are they coming from and they raised her in Polish culture - kudos for that!

I wish her all the best and I really hope that she would win Australian Open 12 :)
