I'm teaching English in Piotrkow until June next year, at least.

As a keen (fanatical?) angler I've already visited the 2 options in the area namely: Jezioro Bugaj (nearby, short cycle ride) and Jezioro Sulejowskie which is a rather knackering hour-long trip on my bike. Should get easier as I get fitter, I hope.

Anyway, I've had some limited success on Bugaj but none on Sulejowskie. I'm looking for someone to team up with for regular visits. Ideally he'd have access to a boat, or we could share boat costs. Going further afield is fine, I'll always share costs. Or I can provide free English lessons if the person is interested, or other arrangements, I'm flexible.

I'm particularly keen on lure angling. Pike, zander, asp, chub, anything predatory, the perch is my favourite species.

If you aren't personally interested, maybe you know someone who might be?

Thanks for reading my post.

Rich

Do you take your fish home or you let it out?

I'm 99% catch and release. In the UK I take the occasional trout for the pot, but only from reservoirs that are stocked for this purpose. As regards wild fish, catch and release, 100%.

Thanks for your concern hythorn. Despite speaking to all the staff at school, every pupil who had enough English to understand, every other angler I've met on the bank, no, I don't have a license. I don't have one because right now it's impossible for me, having very little Polish, to get one.

Perhaps you could help me, point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

you need to get one from these guys

http://www.pzw.org.pl

I never got one as it was too much trouble and I was not sure if I needed to take an exam
I know you do if you want to hunt

without one you cannot fish legally

my friend who is American tried to get one but said it was impossible
so I was hoping you had one so that I could help him

I've had this problem in several different countries in the past.

I'm a law abiding person. Sometimes though, the hoops you have to jump through are so small that it's practically impossible to get through them. In this situation I'll just do my thing, comfortable in my thoughts that I've done what I could do...

My experience in other countries suggests that a foreigner without such license isn't going to get too hard a time. Fact is that so few people around here speak English that it's unlikely that we'd get beyond the "can I see your license" stage. I wouldn't understand that question, he probably wouldn't understand my reply. There would be a stalemate. I think he's unlikely to clap me in chains and whisk me off to prison. If he does, so be it.

Do you fish yourself?

yeah.

I tend to go after catfish
hours of waiting and handling putrid, decomposing bits of chicken liver
until you get a very gentle run off your baitrunner
so you strike and think you have hooked the bottom

then the bottom starts to move....

Dude your in Poland. The land of the pedant. Once they get their teeth into you you are dinner. Foreigners are a bonus. :) You really don't want a run in with the Police. REALLY!

You need a rod licence and you will need to take an exam. All in all it will cost you approx 500zlt if I remember correctly. They are really helpful if you speak Polish. If not get someone Polish to help you.

I personally did not have time to do the required before returning to England but I got some fishing in. We are big on maggots in England and buy them buy the pint. In Poland they buy them by the matchbox. Suprised me.

You can fish on private water without one.

500 zlots for a rod licence

that is why I only fish at private fisheries

they tend to be well stocked so the chances of catching something is much higher too

Very expensive for the average man in Poland.

I am not sure how much is exam fee and how much is licence.

http://www.pzw.org.pl/home/cms/89/fishing_regulations_in_poland

''Before fishing it is essential to obtain a rod licence and a separate permit of a water authority for the certain area (and sometimes for adjoining areas), which allow the holder to fish. The inland waters are controlled by Polish Angling Association, water-companies, fishermen cooperatives and also by private persons''

I would be very careful otherwise you are just asking for someone to come along and confiscate all your gear. It could be a fellow angler. I would be most annoyed if I had forked out two weeks salary for a rod licence and I saw some flash foreigner poaching on my stretch of water

you are poaching in the eyes of the law

By strange coincidence, I was approached 2 hours ago on Bugaj by 2 officials. One of them had outdoor clothing on with badges; something or other Lodz. I was fishing from the valve tower. They pointed out to me with sign language that this is not allowed, so I moved. They also asked for my license, one of them muttered something that sounded like "fishing card" but I acted like I didn't understand anything. I got away with it, they left me to it in the end.

I doubt you have been shopped. Looks like you were lucky

it is up to you, if you want to keep poaching, then carry on.
