Hi McCoy,
Good thread,
I presume this is for the 2012 European Championship?.

Kind of in conjunction with the stadiums are the roads.
here is a really good Forum about the roads being built in Poland.
It is in Polish but I find it very informative.
skyscrapercity
In Ireland the exact same thing happened.
The E.U. are good at financing roads (I'll stop there).

not everyone, i put E2012 above the stadiums for Euro. National Stadium in Warsaw, Stadiums in Wroclaw, Poznan and Gdansk are the main arenas for the event. Chorzow and Wisla Stadium are reserved ones.

Those are very nice projects ;)
I'm particularly looking forward to attending matches in the National Stadium and the Baltic Arena of Gdansk :)) Let me know when the reservations are open ^^

Btw, did you know that Platini, president of the UEFA, said that Poland is capable of organising the Euro 2012 alone, and would, if Ukraine can't get out of the 'crisis'?
Not a good news for them, but wow.

I don't understand why Ukraine and Poland got put together in the first place?.

There is a general pessimism from the people i talk to here about being ready for 2012 but I think the reality is quite different.

I wouldn't be very happy if this comes true but if we get 6 groups and Ukraine gets 2 it would be really good for us.

Yup, that's more likely to happen actually.

Different? Better or worse than what people generally think? ^^

Better, much better.
Buying the land, getting permissions and doing environmental studies.
And that is before you even start.
It takes a long time and remember all this was promised during communism so
people are understandably sceptical but the reality is that everything is steaming along.
I drive through the country often and I can see significant changes.
The whole of Poland is going to dramatically change over the next 4 years.
As regards to high quility infrastructure.

Good to hear that :)
Have you ever driven on the autostrada that goes from Wroclaw to Katowice? Can't remember its name, A1, A3... It's one of the nicest roads i've ever driven on ;) Especially when the sun is setting and lights are starting to shine... Hehe, looks like a nice destination for Christmas, isn't it? ^^
Gotta go, i'm off.

This is a problem for some groups. Many of the changes come with no regard to the past. Modern housing sets dropped into the countryside with no respect for the existing tradition of the place.

I have, you sound sentimental.
I am from a small Island, when i drive in a big country like Poland, I just want to get from A to B.
I like more the drive in the north east of the country. Forest and lakes :)

Yes, this was and still is a huge problem in Ireland too.
There is no simply solution.

Most of these are already under construction (or done - kielce, bydgoszcz). the only stadium that i'm not sure about is Cracovia's one. But i think that construction has begun there too.

next time i'll post some pics of the indoor arenas. there's some nice stuff going on in that matter.

Oh great, they all look really nice. What i find a bit 'weird' is that Białystok, which is not the greatest Polish team, is going to have a quite big stadium (20,000), bigger than some French 'normal' teams ^^ Cool.

I've checked again on the capacity on stadiony.net and it's gonna be 25.000 not 20.000 :) sorx

Sigh, and I thought Gdańsk would get a three-tiered stadium. Oh well...
