Well will they? What does Poland have to do now to reclaim some respect for 2012? Is the money and investment there? Why is Germany and Holland so good?
Sidenote: the German player Tim Borowski. Is he Polish? I have not heard him mention his Polish ancestry before but the name is 100% Polish.

The German striker Miroslaw Klose certainly is of Polish extraction (as is one other, whose name escapes me). There's a lot of it about.

As an Englishman whose side loves to disappoint, I wouldn't pin too much national pride on the footy team. Your women's volleyball team is a quite different matter :)

At the moment they would do well to appoint a manager who has knowledge/experience/respect in World Football and can get the best out of a team of mostly average /slightly above average players.

Somebody like Roy Hodgson at Fulham, although I'd be sorry to lose Roy from FFC.

I don't really know too much about the present Polish national manager Franciszek Smuda.

Looking at the bigger picture, the Polish Football Association needs to look at football from grass roots level all the way to the Orange Ekstraklasa and National Team, and bring in programmes which will train and develop kids from a very young age in a style similar to other successful countries, Holland, Spain etc

There should be basic football facilities available in all cities in schools and sports centres and more opportunities for kids to play and develop their skills in mimi leagues etc

My son has been playing for the last two years in a local league at U7 and U8, and also training at Fulham FC Academy for Talented Youngsters during that time.
I have looked online for similar opportunities for him to play football when we move to Poland in a couple of years time and it's hard to find anything that compares.

Here in UK there is a site called www.football.mitoo.co.uk where one can find Leagues/Clubs all over the country where youngsters can take part; is there anything similar in Poland?

Too much fraud and scheming in the current PZPN.. I doubt they could let anyone get close to the money and managing. Pigs are guarding their hoggery..

Poland just doesn't care about sport and education - the fact that it's nearly impossible to find a swimming pool of a decent size without lanes (macho swimming, as I call it) marked out tells you a lot about their mentality towards sport.

Not to mention the shocking lack of suitable facilities - not helped by the attitude that open space is there to be abused, not used. Look at the UK - you can find football pitches everywhere. In Poland? Forget about it.

I live in the Nowe Miasto in Poznan - population about 100,000. There's not one full sized outdoor pitch available to use for free. :/

PZPN would rather rape Polish football and siphon off as much as possible for the power players and their friends than actually provide the Polish people with something to be proud of. Shame on them.

It sounds so logical and simple yet Poland doesn't know how to do it. Those i'diots!!It's absurd that during communist times they were a force and now they are nothing. Something tells me Poles don't love soccer as much as they would like to think. Germans and Italians are the true soccer powers and will continue to be.

After the Euro is done with, if Poland still sucks a'ss in soccer then they might not even be able to fill those new stadiums.

Perhaps if the money that was allocated to youth development actually went to training kids instead of straight to the Audi dealership, something might start moving.

None of those players were forced to come to play for Germany...and I don't think Germany has ever traded a passport to fill a spot on the national team :) (and even then, the scouts were 50/50, Olisadebe was alright, Roger....not so much)
THE HITMAN  Jun 13, 10, 11:09    #16
No talented strikers I,m afraid means lack of goals, and everyone knows to win a game, the object is to score.
And if you haven,t got skilled strikers, go for pace ( remember Lato ).
Sadly R.Lewandowski doesn,t make the grade as an international player, so why keep playing him ?
The defense are too gentlemen like. We need tougher, harder men at the back. The onus to keep a clean sheet at all costs. Give as good as you get.
Currently the midfield is the only plus point in the national side, with Kuba, Murawski, Obraniak and Peszko being good discoveries.
Use friendly matches to experiment, so why not try Kuba down the middle instead of being wasted out wide.
Plenty food for thought....... hope we have a team worthy to play in a Poland shirt come 2012.

@Alex, Klose and Podolski too. £ukasz Podolski is from the city I live in and I think maybe even Klose too.

As for Poland getting better, they have potential but there are so many quality teams on the go these days. As long as they start playing better, the results will come in time. There is no shame in playing a blinder but losing to classy opposition.

Some Polish girl told me one of her relatives had a chance to see the Polish team train and they apparently smoke during the practices. What athlete smokes? These b'astards are clearly not serious.

Sure, their families are of german Silesian stock after all...the whole Gleiwitz was once a full german town!

Gleiwitz

My mum's family is from GLIWICE ;) And they are Polish. Even though my grand-parents were fluent in German and Silesian (and Polish).

Well, now of course yes!

But only now:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gliwice

...
Seeking a peaceful solution to the conflict, the League of Nations held a plebiscite on March 20, 1921 to determine which country the city should belong to.
In Gleiwitz, 32,029 votes (78.7% of given votes) were for remaining in Germany, Poland received 8,558 (21.0%) votes, and 113 (0.3%) votes were declared invalid. The total voter turnout was listed as 97.0%...

Klose and Podolski are just the late leftovers from these Germans who didn't left what became Poland with the first wave.

Polson? Aren't you cheering the french team???

At least as joint hosts they don't have to qualify, which having seen them play is a good thing.

I heard Germany sent Germans (ex-Silesians) to have more votes... Not fair ;)

Nazi boy . . . it's funny how you're trying sooooooooo hard to make these guys German :) They are Polish Germans. Like I am a Polish Canadian. I was born in Poland but most of the family is in Poland. I still like Poland and make myself Polish food once in a while and drink Polish beer. If Germans want to be an immigrant country then they have to get used to this hyphenated phenomenon (ex. Polish Canadian, Polish American etc.) Klose and Podolski are not as Germanized as you might think. Klose has a Polish wife and they have 2 boys that they speak Polish with at home. It's his right to do that. Podolski has a Polish girlfriend and he has plenty of family left in Poland. Clearly their Polish ancestry means something to them.
Now can anyone tell me if Borowski has full Polish ancestry? I wonder if Ballack was once know as Balacki? :) He was born in East Germany after all. Hehehehe.

In case you don't know that...over there where you live...Germans and Poles mixed over more than a millennia with ever changing borders. You have much more Germans and we have much more Poles than we can imagine...what is your problem?
Maybe jealeous because they win for Germany??? ;)

One of your most famous town, Krakow, was rebuild and settled wholly with Germans after the Mongols destroyed and depopulated the area...they were polonized in the course of the centuries.
One of your most admired artists Veit Stoss was a full German, your most admired scientist Kopernikus was at least half German and so on...

Millions of Poles immigrated over the years to Germany and alot of western Poland was once german territory.

So what if Ballack has also polish heritage and Klose or Podolski have german heritage (at least their families could leave Poland and demand german citizenship on these grounds back then)..

Get a grip man!

On the pitch, they're 100% German (proved that in Dortmund last WC). Off the pitch, I could care less what they speak while they're in their German homes. They put the numbers on the board, and have the right qualifications for the job. They made a choice to play for the country that taught them the game. GG
