Howard Webb, not someone ever likely to be honoured in Poland has been appointed as referee for the biggest game in 4 years.

Many other referees made big mistakes in this world cup. That's life.

Tak. He also got the UCL Final this year also. He is a top ref, who made a high profile decision that the Poles decided was the main reason they did not qualify for the KO stages. It happens all the time... vilification.

WELL DONE H.WEBB and HIS TEAM!

I knew we would make the final this year ;)

p.s any one else think this 'may' be FIFAS way of trying to simmer down the fire RE the goal line incident? ;)

naw, i dont think so

I dont get why Polish people hate him so much, he gave a peno against them but they were crap in that game anyway and didn't deserve to win. It's years ago, get over it.

I don't think he's the PL's best referee, I think that would be Steve Bennett.

I think the tv thing is a disgrace, they wouldn't do it for Ireland but when England go crying to Sepp, he says he'll think about it, it's double standards and it's bullsh*t.

While it does work in rugby, cricket & tennis, it must be remembered that the proposals are for only goal line technology, if it comes in the calls for full tv technology will get louder and louder.
I think what should be put forward is something like what they have in the NFL, where once per half (I think, maybe once per game) the coach can question a ref's decision by using video, this would mean that managers couldn't always stop and start the game when they pleased.

I've noticed in the world cup that football has become much slower and less attacking, I hope this trend is bucked soon, i really dont want my favourite sport to become tiresome and boring like rugby, cricket & tennis

Just think that, FIFA had that 'issue' in their minds when making this decision.

I for one am all for goal line technology, there really is no reason why this cannot be implemented with minimal disruption to the game.

The powers that be must be waiting VERY nervously at the moment... two more games... no incidents and they will have gotten away with it with minimal damage... but if something happens that affects Spain or The Netherlands chances on Sunday... oh dear... OUTRAGE!! Luckily for FIFA, the final score line glossed over the importance of the issue in the Ger/Eng match... but we all know it heavily affected the match and the outcome really ;)

As for Ireland. It was seen as blatant CHEATING, I do not think FIFA should introduce technology for moments of player decision making. Diving and all other forms of bad sportsmanship have an extra dimension to contend with... INTENT! :(

I agree G/L technology for a goal/no goal is a good idea, but hate the idea of video ref for the many other cotroversial decisions in the game.

But they should have harder sanctions against players and clubs that are proven to have cheated during a game, not just a meagre fine, but dock the team points that would soon stamp this diving and playacting out of the game.

And please add to this recrimination movement the 'waving of an imaginary card' at the ref, to jerk him into action. This makes me sick! Where on earth did this idea come from. Shame on you!

No way. He and his team did the European cup final as well this year.He and his linesman have had a very good tournament so far.

The penalty he gave against Poland was in fact a penalty.

me too

but it's time to move on, it's a long time ago
The only thing I worry about is that Webb can be quite strict and if he books someone like VAn Bommel early then the Dutch will be under pressure straight away.

I think I'll shout for the Dutch, I like many of the Spanish players, but Holland have won all their games since the beginning of the qualifying so it'd be cool if they got it.
I'd love to see a 4-3 belter of a match, but a 1-0 will probably be more like it.
Although, maybe Spain since they play the better football
bah, i dunno

It was a soft penalty. It is no different from a lot of the jostling and minor tugging that goes on during corners which would make me say that it shouldn't have been a penalty. Still, Lewandowski was visibly tugging on the guy's shirt. He needn't have done that :(

Chyba Howard dostał w łeb :)
