Paweł Ostasz had to pull out of his fight due to a fractured hand:(
I just know he's got the talent and killer instinct to fight at a very high level, he just needs to put it all together AND not have bad luck:/ I think it's that last piece that has got him once or twice in the past

how did he fracture his hand?

my near brush with a fractured hand came whilst training in the Cabbagetown gym in Toronto with Johnny Kalbhenn.

http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=890&cat=boxer

He swung an overhand right at the same time that I did and the knuckle joint on my little finger mysterious disappeared inside my hand somewhere and then popped back out again. goodness that smarted. my hand swelled up so it looked like I was wearing an oven mitt.
Days later sold my body for medical research as I needed the cash and they tested a new drug on me. A new wonderdrug muscle relaxant for the treatment of ligament injuries. How is that for dumb luck?

There's an international competition in Olsztyn this week.

please tell us more Sir.
the Olsztyn club is arguably the best MMA club in Poland - are there local, Olsztyn. fighters on the card?

I didn't get to go but I think there were guys from all over Poland, especially the local chappies.

It's frustrating for me cos all the MA clubs train when I'm working and so I never get to train in anything, and Olsztyn clubs generally (TKD, Kendo, Judo/JJ) seem to have top reputations.

Considering the size of the town, Olsztyn is blessed with several fine training establishments. I have been to the town a couple of times and it seemed a very nice place.
the MMA club is particularly outstanding - MA clubs in our neck of the woods are starting to offer weekend training, is that a similar situation in the Olsztyn area?

hey ya Trevek, you can probably do off hour training if you can find a practice partner or you excell at a specific skillset that others might benefit from. send out a feeler to a club and see what you can find. a lot of the times there are unofficial training sessions as well.

anyone know any good mma promoters or managers in this country?

I think a number of clubs do weekend training (I know some of the TKD and Judo do).

Foreigner, I think the hardest thing is finding somewhere to train. I started Chen Tai Chi a few years ago and part of the time included training in a forst because we didn't have a room (not a problem when there were no mosquitoes). I once asked an Eskrima guy about individual training and was expected to pay for the hire of the hall myself.

you're in Olsztyn? i think the eskrima guy was taking the p!ss, some of the tma guys can be kind of eccentric imo.

if guys don't have a facility that can often be an indicator that they're not in demand because of a variety of reasons.

good luck

Many of the clubs up here (like the eskrima guy) train in school buildings etc. It means that during the summer there is less training because they don't have the premises (found it in Warsaw too).

The Judo/ITF TKD/MMA guys have access to private/state/university buildings (other than LO's or Gymnaziums).

I've SMS'd my Tai Chi sifu to see if he has any time for private classes. Spring is coming so the woods won't be so cold!

I gotcha. The weight class needs new blood, after the Liddell craze it just kind of got stale. I think there is going to be an influx of new young fighters.

Hopefully there will be. There are some good fighters here that, unfortunately, don't take the step up. They should do a one-off match with Kimbo and Brock. Kimbo needs to get Bass Rutten to belt him on the chin. He's commentating now, right?

I believe so. Kimbo is also going to be on the next season of the ultimate fighter TV show as one of the contestants. haha.

Beating whooped by Seth Petruzelli was embarrassing. I mean, don't get me wrong, Seth has credentials and many wins under his belt but Kimbo just had to maul him to get the job done. How on earth could he have had a glass jaw as bad as that? The big black guy, Bird, hit him but didn't seem to faze him. Seth is much lighter than him.
