Hi can you tell me if Wroclaw has a rugby club (not a 7's team) and how might i contact them to see their fixtures in october when i visit.... thanks

Wroclaw only has a 7's team. American football seems to dominate there with regards to contact sport.

The easiest way to find out would be to make contact with these 7's guys and get directed by them. 7's is used as a development sport with most people wanting to play 15's ultimately. There are only two or three 15's leagues in the country, about 20 teams and some of those are seconds teams for the biggest clubs.

Think the season has ended but there are likely to be a few games/tournaments yet. The best thing to do is to make contact with your local sevens club depending where you live. A google search should find your team. The link below will show you where recent tournaments took place and lists teams.

Was wondering if anyone knows about rugby in Poland, I live in England and have a Polish Grandfather, I would like to try out for the Polish U18's and was wondering if anyone knows how to, or if there is some sort of Polish Exiles team like the Irish Exiles.

The Polish team is made up of players from the domestic professional league and players based in France. The under 18's would be based entirely in Poland. Polish rugby has nothing like the resources of the IRFU to have an exiles team. Your best bet is to contact the Polish Union directly by e-mail. Note that the standard of training/facilities would often be much lower that you would have at an average English club.

What's "decent" level for you?

In Lodz there's a team called "Budowlani", they're noteworthy. As is "Arka" from Gdynia.

In Kraków there is Juvenia who have not a bad side. As it is still a relatively fledgling sport in Poland I think a "decent" level will depend on what level you were playing at home. If you were playing in a decent team's 1st XV in England then it's likely the level won't be quite as high. If you are more of a social player then you should find it comparible. The problem I heard when talking to a few expat players in Kraków was that getting a game was hard as they only want 2 non-Polish player in the first team. So you either need to be really great or be happy to just train and maybe play for the seconds which won't give you as much of a challenge.

If you want to play at a proper level you have 2 choices, Lodz and The Tri-city area. Budowlani dominate rugby in Lodz as the only pro team. There is a rapidly growing amateur scene here that has grown from about 30-40 participants just a few years ago to well over 100 playing today. There is also a fledgling 15 amateur league in central Poland.

There are a few pro teams in the tri-city and the national team plays home games there, and sometimes in Warsaw. Lechia Gdansk and Arka Gdinia are the pro teams up there.

These 3 teams dominate the league. there are pro teams in Warsaw, Poznan, Krakow and a town between Lodz&Warsaw called Sochaczew. Sochaczew are 4th in the pro league currently and I've played 7's at there venue. Their facilities are brilliant compared to my clubs, but are nothing compared to what you are likely used to. We share pitches with other sports at best, often playing in public parks. We rarely have changing rooms.

You won't be able to play rugby casually with any of these clubs and the players are massive. Doping rules are not heavily applied to the top teams here.
