During my last visit in Poland (summer 2010)*WB should put that date in his notes on me* I have noticed that Poles really don't exercise that much.

I saw some people biking, walking along the sea shore with the walking sticks (new trend), but other then that there was little activity.

My guess would be that that is quite a good observation.

some females don't exercise because it might build up muscle. to stay skinny they rely on diet.

a lot of people do go to a gym, swim, walk in the countryside/mountains, cycle. others might play tennis, basketball, football.

that women bulk up when weight lifting, it takes a lot to get there. Plus the diet.

it's only occasionally that i see anyone jogging btw.

Just noticed this one.

Poles I know in Ireland are the opposite - VERY active most of them: hiking, swimming, cycling mainly. Long brisk walks are common place and just routine.

I'm thinking both Canada in general possibly has quite a developed exercise culture though so many countries would seem a bit inactive in comparison.

Yes and no. Try to rent some nice gym on reasonable hours during autumn/winter/spring... Almost imposible other than at least couple of months in advance. On the other hand there is not many nice gyms to rent...

I dunno about that one, all of my friends and their families are keen sportspersons, tennis, cycling, skiing, horse riding, wind surfing and kite surfing, golf and gym. There have been an explosion of sport related businesses popping up over the last 5 years as a example just look at the success of the sport retailer, decathlon. There are lots of summer and winter camps for kids. I would say that the Poles are a lot more active than the Brits.

Good and fairly accurate observation.

In terms of appearance, it's not yet a problem as there are few obese people in poland compared to the UK/USA - my observation. However health-wise, lack of exercise (anything really- regular walking, running swimming, resistance training) is not a good thing.

Heart health is ignored in poland and i once read that heart disease is on the rise. Just wait until american food becomes even more popular in poland - ohhhhh boy!

well, I am getting ready for the biking season. First I have to get a bike. I used a mountain bike in the past in the city before, but at the moment I am thinking about something more urban. Need to go shopping first and see what is available.

My helmet is looking at me and saying: take me for a ride. I am glad I have some biking attire and NO, I don't have those tight biking shorts with a padding. Nor I am planning to get a pair.

Cheers to all the biking fans out there!!!!!!!
