(Reuters) - Polish teams could play with empty stadiums as part of a crackdown on hooliganism, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Wednesday, a day after violent scenes at the Polish Cup final dealt another blow to the Euro 2012 co-hosts' image.

Time to step it up.

Yea but that's Russia they don't really have a democracy and the government doesn't care too much about human rights. In Poland and other parts of Europe that would be considered too brutal.

I've got to ask this. What is the cause(s) for all this violence? Is it un-employement? drugs? booze? boredom? all of the above?.........Are there examples of similar sports-venue destruction elsewhere in the world? the States? It's so vulgar and senseless :(

If this is true (and it most probably is), Poland has got a seriously uphill struggle against hooliganism:
On Wednesday, the head of the police team responsible for fighting stadium hooliganism was suspended for writing to football authorities to ask them to issue a ticket to a man who is under a stadium ban and is known to have been violent.

Source.

What's very interesting in Poland is just how much influence the supporters clubs have.

I love those angry speeches of Tusk when he suddenly declares will to fight issues that have been known for years.

You know what would happen if a policeman shot a hooligan in the eye with those rubber bullets and beanbags and the guy lost an eye, or if they beat him half to death? There would be a city wide riot, like in Slupsk some years back after a cop killed a kid.

That's their nature, i've never seen Czechs fight even when they had a reason to. Now if Poles drink it's almost a miracle if there isn't a fist fight.

This is shameful, I don't know what else to say Penn. Nothing has changed over there.

I went to a lot of games here and I've never seen anyone behave like this.

I have an idea, put every hooligan in prison for 3 years. Its ******* embarrassing, and I hope this does not happen in 2012. Time to get tougher on those hooligan cunts

Haha, that's true. However, that's an issue that's been known for years, should have been resolved years ago and the current government has done nothing in that regard for over 3 years. Spontaneous angry speeches are hillarious in this context. It's not like they've been particularly busy, anyway.

The thing is they have their ustawki arranged fights in woods or by some road why destroy a stadium? Probably because they know the whole country is watching on tv and they wanna be famous.

As someone who was at the game, i was most impressed with the fan protest at the start of the game, the "riot" was pretty tame compared to some i've seen at polish grounds, The atmosphere was fantastic
and the displays were fantastic to see, The rioters were only a tiny minority, The vast majority of fans behaved well and sang their hearts out.

There is a way to solve the "hooligan" problem, simply take the ustawka inside the stadium, make it half time entertainment. I'd happily pay 10plz extra for a 100v100 battle royale,

For me basketball is a black sport, football (European) and hockey i like. And baseball is just gay.

HAHA oh yea that would be lovely, have wives and kids look at ppl beating each other up and being taken away on a stretcher, setting a good example for the youngsters.

I think it's more open defiance at the authorities - the trashing of stadiums has become a lot more popular ever since the Government started moving against them.

Only solution is to close the stadiums until they can behave. Simple as that.
