Both Lato and Boniek relied on their pace, but I would probably say that Boniek was the more skillful of the two;
marqoz: I vote Boniek for his later professional career in European teams and Lato as the best national teamer You are probably correct in that Boniek played for greater club teams such as Juventus and Roma, winning a Cup Winners Cup, European Super Cup and also a European Cup if memory serves me correctly;
Lato probably achieved more playing for the Polish national side than Boniek. Lato represented Poland in three World Cups, 1974, 1978 and 1982 where Poland gained third place in '74 and '82, and Lato was awarded the Golden Boot at the '74 tournament scoring 7 goals - only Polish player ever to achieve this honour. Lato is also the most capped Polish player with 104 caps , and I believe he is the second highest scorer for the national team after Lubanski. Lato also won Gold and Silver for Poland at 1972 and 1976 Olympics respectively.
If I had to choose one of these players to be playing in our national team now, as they did when at the peak of their career, then I'd probably go for Boniek. It would be great if Poland had players of their quality in the squad today :o)
marqoz: Szarmach on the other hand was a best head-shooter head-shooter ??? :o) not a term commonly used ; you mean that he was the best header of a ball :o)
It's a great shame that Lubanski was injured and could not take part in the '74 World Cup in Germany - he is definitely viewed as one of Poland's greatest players.
It will be interesting to see what players will make it for Euro 2012, and whether we will have a team to be proud of at the Championships. No competitive games before Euro 2012, which will make it quite difficult to assess how the teams performs in 'real' matches.
