Not strictly speaking a sport but a little known fact:

The oldest known non-returning boomerang, an artifact found in Poland, dates from about 20,000 years ago.

I suppose it might have been a test of skill as well as for hunting. Anyway it should upset the Aussies no end.

Yes true, but it's a curved stick to increase the areodynamics and stability in flight. Most of the original boomerangs were in fact non returning. As people got lazier ........

Yep, they are called throwing sticks. Very common hunting weapon.

Then they weren't called boomerangs I guess.Do you think they were curved just for looks?

sort of my point... at what stage did a stick... picked up off the ground or from a tree, but nonetheless curved to increase the areodynamics and stability in flight... become a boomerang so that it can be established that the oldest one is 20,000 years old and from poland...?

Besides Football, cricket, Rugby, tennis (possibly), golf. Probably a few more.

Of course there is. It is called:

Palant

It is played with a ball, a stick (bat) and bases...

North American Baseball has roots from this ancient Polish game.
