Just been watching a programme, which shows how badly Polish people are being treated...they are discoraged from bringing some along is they dont speak good English, one guy (he was actually a Polish journalist working on behalf of the programme makers) was told to sign forms, one of which had his hours down....he was told he would be working 12 hours a day 6 days a week and then the women at the agency said "so thats 48 hours a day".....some how that doesnt add up, any way its still on BBC1 if anyone is interested in watching

Okay, the prog. then moved on to Polish people doing well and living it up in London, it would seem that the Polish are integrating well and doing well, they interviewed a trainee journalist and an accountant...

I suppose that we are like any other nations.

I met here few ambitious polish people who have good jobs.
My friend works as line manager (passed some exams) and extra works as polish translator for Police and hospitals. Another one works in a Bank ......

But to bo honest if some people move here they don't speak English and don't even try much.... it is their fault and they are quite vunerable as they canit even read their contract properly.

None of this surprises me i brought this to this forums attention few months back on the thread stop the exploitation of polish in uk.To be fair the Polish and British government are starting to do things about it together.I suggest anyone 1 working in unskilled labour join a trade union to protect you and advice you when similar problems occur. untill many poles do the abuse im afraid will continue all companies want is cheap labour and at any cost to you but to be fair this abuse really is from recruitment agencies who have no respect to human dignity.Im afraid its slavery in the 21st century but you can to something about it join a trade union and tell them everything that they are explioting on you.Trust me they will fall in the end you just have to be brave my friends.why should you hard workers be treated any different from anyone else????

Ups... I forgot... only one of my friends has a "good" job there. She is an exception . My friend is Hungarian with Polish roots.

For over 2 yrs. she has been working as a teacher assistant in the most dangerous places in London. She has MA in Polish Philology and Culture Studies. Her English is very good. Also she is very talented artist and translator, since her Hungarian and Polish are fluent.
It is so sad to see how the potential of many young, educated and beautiful Polish people is wasted there. And I do not blame UK government for it...
I hate my country, really.

Native born British people experience exactly the same problems. Not all Brits have good jobs & achieve success. Life can be extremely hard regardless of your background. There are many homeless and jobless people from all walks of life. Look around you !

UK is a very polarised society. Don't expect the Garden of Eden. We Brits have it hard too!

I will agree with you - I know English but I can't be so nice to my employer - so I did not get the contract but Poles who did not speak word of English got the contract they licked employer's boots - but I did not so my English did not help me cuz I wasn't using it when it wasn't necessary - and Poles was licking it by smiling on every occasion to the Boss - but I can't this way - so this was my fault or I was born that way, so what to do.
