Hi a year or so back here in the UK we had a fantastic advert for Stella Artois lager. the one with the Priests ice skating, staring the great Z B (hey, its late, the fella from three colours white :) ) obviously filmed in Poland. We now have one showing that features a olde worlde bar ,the people in it have a certain "polish look" is this also filmed in Poland?

My wife says many of the priest were well known polish actors. And there was me thinking they were real priests, duh...

Stella Artois is Belgian. I thought a wife beater was an American word for a vest. Stella is a quality beer.

wife beater

Its called wife beater because it is known to make people aggressive after a few pints.

I figured that djf, not just Stella surely? LOL It is a little stronger than British brews. Many European brews average over 5%.

I dont know why but it does seem to make people more aggressive than the typical lagers. Even the ones which are stronger like Becks (not vier).
Similar to the depressive effects of Gin on most people.

Stella Artois was originally brewed in Leuven/Louvain, in Belgium. I lived in Leuven for a while when studying, and the Belgians themselves are not particularly enthusiastic about the overseas reputation of Stella Artois because it is a lager; the majority of Belgians prefer the darker beers as their usual tipple (though I should add that it took me quite a while to get used to the sight of Belgian workers at the rail station cafe drinking a lager - Stella, or Maes - at 7.00 am along with their breakfast). I suspect Stella only took off in Europe, and beyond, once Heineken became popular and something a a battle of the lagers broke out in Europe (and we shouldn't forget New Zealand's outstanding contribution, Steinlager). But in Belgium, lager is what you drink when you are wanting to slake your thirst in a hurry (more of a palate-cleanser than anything else): serious beer-drinking centres around the so-called 'abbey-beers.' And I think - but may be mistaken - that Stella Artois is now owned by a South American consortium.

For once I have to agree...for some reason American beer gives me a spanking banking rotten head in the morning (I've tried Bud once or twice) so I just dont go near it plus that I its tastes vile...I forget the name but I love a certain spanish beer...But Stella is very nice on a hot sunny day :)

If Stella brought some beer with her that would be an added bonus.

True. I love Stella although people try to warn me away from it if its going to be a big day of drinking as the alcohol content gets me buzzing by the second pint. Those first two Stellas on a hot day put me in a great mood. Its the other 6 or 7 that get me hugging the table.

I was just about to post this!!

Drank a lot of it in my late teens, evil, evil stuff....

What makes it worse is that i cannot think of a beer that smells so much worse the second time you see it, if you know what i mean...

It's Belgian and Stella Artois means "The Star of Artois" (Artois = Atrecht in Dutch), for the ones a bit familiar with the history of the LowLands: De Unie van Utrecht en de Unie van Atrecht (the Union of Utrecht and the Union of Artois) is THE classic historic example of the division of Protestantism and Catholisism in the LowLands, divided and still within the same country :)

M-G (Grolsch, the beer of his area in Holland - parents live about 5 km from that brewery)

for sure. I had a match of tennis is the summer with my cousin and then we went for a beer. It was Grolsch. I will never forget that taste. One of those things I will remeber forever, not to mention the bottle. Very nice:)

After reading this thread I've just been to the Stella Artois site and the artoisblog.
Both worth a visit.
