Strange reaction of a Polish guy from Poznan

I work part time as a doorman on the weekend to make a little extra money for savings.
I often meet Polish students and I greet them and try to practise a little. Normally they laugh and try to help me, we have fun and we both learn a little.

Recently, there was a polish guy from Poznan (a) I sometimes speak with, he was with his friend(b) in the club, I let him(a) and his friend(b) skip the queue for cloakroom but his friend(b) gave his ticket to (a) and stayed standing by me.
Since I normally speak to (a), I tried to be polite and also speak to him(b) a little.

His reaction was wierd. He keep asking me who i was, "who you? who you?", and said something about speaking polish with some slang I couldn't understand.
His friend came over, apologized and made him walk away.

When I asked my girlfriend about this, she was embarrassed and wouldn't explain but said ignore him and keep speaking to Polish people.

Are You for real? I was lauging, that I almost fell from my chair!
