Does a strong Zloty damage Poland's tourism

I was looking to stay at the Patria hotel in Czestochowa in July. It's an old Communist built hotel that is now 3 star rated and is actually much nicer inside than the exterior suggests.

However, they are quoting prices of £ 107 per NIGHT without breakfast !!!!

Prices come down at the weekend to about £ 60 per night but as I want to stay there for a week I am seriously having to reconisder my plans !

It's a combination of a strenghtening zloty and prices going up.

Yes, businessmen pay more for stays during the week and tend to go home at weekends which means the hotels have more rooms available then. Most of the top hotels offer discount rates at weekends except in the main tourist areas. Its also better to book online and not just turn up at reception.

I have just googled "hotel czestochowa" and it seems that pricest start form 99 zlotys. What is about 24 british pounds or 50 us dollars. When you make reservation much ealier you can even have 50% discount ...

I have also noticed very big differances in prices from English/American web sites as opposed to the same hotel on a Polish site.

Tell me about it ! What's more, I stayed 3 nights at the Polonia Palace in Warsaw only two weeks back and this is a classy 4 star hotel. The average rate for my stay was only £ 85 a night !!

Thanks for the tip. I have checked that site and prices are indeed cheaper than other places I have looked, however, for 9 nights at the beginning of July the prices are nowhere near 99 zloty. Average rate is about 294 zloty.

I've not really noticed massive differences on prices from English language to Polish language websites. In fact, I've spotted that there are a relatively small number of websites that have different skins to make them look different.

I also wonder why it is always more expensive to get a rate if you turn up at hotel reception than if you pre book. Surely, if they want to get rid of empty room they should be in a better position to discount the online prices.

The way that Hotels price their rooms is a real mystery - ever tried Las Vegas ? Their rooms vary by the hour !

Always best to phone and try and get the rate down, the advertised rate is always their opening gambit.

I didnt say that but never mind. Anyway, the point is that prices for some products and services appear to be sky rocketing in Poland.

And many are rented that way.

I think price in Czestochowa is so high in July (and September) because in this time there is a lot of pilgirms.

I visit Czestochowa every year and normally stay with friends but I feel that I can't impose on them EVERY year hence me wanting to stay in a hotel this time round.

The pilgrims only swell the town's population in August (which would have been when your photo was taken OR during a papal visit).

There are other hotels in the town but the Patria has the best location. I'm still shocked at their room rates though !
