How do Polish universities compare with those of other Central/Eastern European countries?

Hello.I have a plan to attend a university in poland(i'm from China). After looking through the topics and discussions on this forum, I got surprised by the low evaluation of polish universities by the people.

How do you think the quality of univeristis in poland comparing to other middle/east-euro countries(Lithuania, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania etc). Are polish universities better than them or worse or else?

I have some friends studying in poland and they have different opinions on the higher educations here so I want to know your opinions,Thank you :)

Unless you go to the best Universities in Poland, the paper at the end of your studies will not be worth a penny.
The question is not where to study, but what will future employers accept.

They're not covered because just few of them are very good. Look at any ranking, for example:

If you consider an University out of this list then probably you don't gain anything over studying in China.

If you consider Eastern Europe because of low costs, then maybe you would like to consider also:

Portugal is quite cheap and it has few decent universities:

2 301-400 University of Porto Portugal
3 401-500 University of Coimbra Portugal

Greece became very cheap (especially rents in recent years and has few good universities)
301-400 University of Athens Greece
401-500 Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Greece

You have the ability to penetrate people's mind as they choose Poland as the backdoor to EU, just for lower cost.
But I just want to know your idea about these things. Why are you lack of confidence? I think you should be proud of the best universities in your country.And i wonder if there is an out-of-balance of education resources which causes the fact that those are pathetic who cannot go to best universities?

In my opinion,Poland is Poland, not the cheap alternatives of western europe and German universities are best with no ranking.If I have the chance to learn Polish, it will be much better than so-called most important slavic language Russian which is very popular in our country.I hate Russia!

It seems that also many students from west europe even US choose to study medicine in Poland, do these Medical Courses taught in English also sucks?

Point out where I've said something like that? I've just simply guessed that you would like to study cheap in Europe as most of foreign students want.

I have no idea what you're trying to say.


Of course Poland is cheap alternative to Germany. If you want to have European experience, then for Chinese Poland must be much more similar to Germany then for example Singapur (except that poorer)


So why don't you start your question with information that you want to come to Poland in order to learn Polish? Quite opposite you're asking about universities in the whole region of eastern Europe.

First of all avoid private Universities and part time studies (zaoczne, wieczorowe)!

In Poland departments are pretty independent and the level of faculties can differ seriously, so what you really should check is evaluation of the particular major at the particular University! You should be especially careful with studies in English, they are pretty often just a source for money and nobody treats them seriously. The best "test" to check it is the number of lectures with professors, all main subjects should be with professors, if they are not run away as fast as you can!
