When you are in Tri-city, you may go Hel (one l) by a ferry or a fast boat, near Kaków check Wieliczka If you haven't seen that yet. And If I were you, I would reduce the number of places to visit.

I have a 4 year old so when I visited Poland I always thought what it would be like if my child was there. I got the impression that Gdansk/Sopot were very child friendly. In Gdansk there were lots of street entertainers and old things with stories attached that would play with a 9 year olds' imagination.
In Sopot there is a water park ( though I dont know what it is like inside ), a well patrolled beach and lots of seaside junk to buy. A lot of Polish families holiday in Sopot so there are a lot more family orientated things to do.
There's also a pirate ship which departs for mini cruises round the bay, didn't go on it but it looked like fun.
Krakow appeared more touristy and more of a focus on grown ups. Your 9 year old would enjoy a visit to the Wawel and all the stories of dragons etc. I dont know if I would recommend a visit to the Salt mines though. You would need to keep a close eye on your child as it is dark and, well, err ... a mine.

These are just my impressions as a tourist and I would be interested to hear from local Polish.

Cheers for that szkotja2007 ... my daughter has a terrific imagination and she is very intelligent she asked why she could not go to Auschwitz (she knows about what happened there just not the true extend of the horror) i told her she wasnt old enough.

Thanks on the tips for the tri-city areas

I have been recommended planetrium in Torun and in Warszawa the palace of culture and science seems interesting (my daughter is big on these areas in her interests esp science)

I found Wawel and the jewish quarter of Krakow very interesting

Did you take your daughter when you visited in 2003 ? Any thoughts from a parents perspective? I am just thinking about things like health and safety in the parks, attitudes in restaurants etc etc
Any different than U.K ?

I lived in Kraków and Warszawa. Very nice zoo in both cities. You can visit the Kopiec Kościuszki in Kraków, a big mound from where you can see the city, in sukiennice can buy souvenirs, lots of pigeons, listen to the Hejnał, Wawel of course always interesting. In Warsaw the old castle, Castle in Wilanów, Łazienki Park, pałac Kultury, lots of museums and even when driving from town to town you see interesting castles and churches along the way.

Telefonitika, you should see Wieliczka Salt Mine. You are allowed in only with the guide so there is no problem with your 9 year. I took my daughter there when she was five and she really was happy about this. There is a really nice park near Blonie in Krakow with boats on a pond. Usually we have here some outdoor cultural events. For sure you will find something for yourselves.

When I was younger, I can't remember much, my parents took me to Poland. Sadly I can only remember petting and feeding geese. Can't remember cities or any other wonderful places i see pictures of. Plan on making a visit though. Hopefully this summer.

There is a very picturesque village near Tarnow, called Zalipie. If you want a little bit of a.. "travel back in time" you should definitely stop by there. Beskid Sadecki, gorgeous places to see, Piwniczna, Sucha Polana itd.
Krakow is a must.. Warsaw as well, Gdansk, Panorama Raclawicka in Wroclaw, and Niedzica. I believe that you can actually rent a room for the night in the Niedzica castle.. But I could be wrong..

I would definitely visit the castles and museums. You can check out some of the old Husaria Armor, paintings, statues.

Oh man I hope I go to Poland next summer
