My Mother caught a taxi from the airport to the Marriott hotel in Warsaw last week and it cost her 25zl. And sorry isthatu2 you are wrong about not being able to get a taxi to old town square because I have caught a taxi to there myself. :)

One gets close but not exactly in the old town square. No traffic of any kind in the old town square, but foot traffic.

then I am a liar then?? Because I know for 100% that it was the old town square because my wife's uncle owns the restaurant Fukier Rynek Starego Miasta 27, Warsaw and we were dropped off right outside the place.

Yes you are a liar. Taxis are banned from the old town square.

And I very much doubt that Piotr is your wife's uncle.

No snappy comeback from ukpolska? Pity, I'm just on my way out to the old town now, I could have got a photo of the sign saying that taxis are banned from the old town.

Despite the racist abuse from ukpolska sent by PM, I'll repy in open forum for anybody who wants to challenge me:

I was in the old town today and not only did I get a photo of the sign which specifically forbids taxis from entering the old town but I also got a photo of a van which is owned by the person ukpolska claim is his wife's uncle getting a ticket for being in the old town without a permit. So how come his wife's uncle can get taxis to his restaurant but can't get his own delivery vans there? I'll tell you why: it's because ukpolska is a lying sack of ****.

The owner of the hotel we are staying at said it would cost 50-60 for the both of us so 25 each makes sense.

Thanks

Are taxis charging by the person they drive, or is the price the same for one, two or three? (puzzled)

Well, let's see, the legal daytime maximum for a taxi in Warsaw is currently 3zl per kilometre (although no corporation charges that much, the maximum real rate is 2.40zl/km and is charged by all the three corporations permitted to operate from Warsaw airport). Warsaw airport is 10km south of the city centre. So with the 6zl for the first kilometre, the maximum legal daytime charge to city centre would be 33zl.

At night and during sundays/holidays, the maximum rate is 4.50zl/km but the first Kilometre rate is the same. So that's a maximum of 46.5zl.

If you are asked for 75zl to get from the airport to the city centre, you are being robbed. Get your camera out and get a photo of the driver and his ID card (which should be on display in the cab). Then ask for a receipt which says where from and where to. Once you do this, cabbies suddenly get a lot more reasonable and will most probably put your fare to the level it should be at.

Make sure your taxi has a sign saying "TAXI" on the roof and not "TAKI" or "TAX1" as you will sometimes see.

Oh, and one more thing: never argue the fare too much. If the driver insists you will pay an amount, you will pay that much and he'll be happy to get six of his mates to come and explain why you should pay the fare. Just get receipt plus photo of driver and cab number (on the door) and license plate. That should be enough to file a formal complaint.

The price is the same for one to four people. Above that different rules apply because the cab needs a slightly different license.

yes, do not accept a lift in the airport. Go outside and see the taxi rank. You'll spot the legitimate ones easier

My cousin and I paid ~50zl (together) for a taxi from "praga south" to the airport. I don't remember exactly where in that part of town we were coming from but it was probably 2-4km east of the river. Your fare should be less than that.

about 50 zloty sounds right, maybe 60 if you get stuck in a traffic jam or if you choose one of the more expensive taxi firms. FYI the bus (#175) costs only 2.40 and it will drop you off within walking distance of the old town..

Paul: which part of "legal daytime maximum for a taxi in Warsaw is currently 3zl per kilometre" and "Warsaw airport is 10km south of the city centre" are you failing to understand?

I don't mean to preach but I've lived in Warsaw for 11 years and have never paid more than 40zl to get from the airport to the city centre (and that's including evenings after 10pm, sundays and public holidays). Under 30 is the daytime average.
