I remember Texas. That was back in the late 1980s. After that it became Homebase. Now it might be Do It All or perhaps B&Q. I can't remember.

I am not missing a thing about Texas now...it's near the end of June and we've barely gotten over 80 in Chicago. I'm loving this city.

Check out Falls City. My wife (polska) works in Austin for a Polish doctor. He brought her some Polish sausage from there; I don't remember what it was called, but it was one of those that does not require cooking (so she says). There is really nothing in Panna Maria, unless you either want to go to church or you are searching for ancestral graves.

Dallas humidity ain't got no'in' on Houston.

The trip to Padre is so not worth it unless you live south of Corpus (and in that case, I am very very sorry). Go to Cancun for about the same $$ and the water down there is crystal clear and the sand is gleaming white with pieces of coral. (Actually, go to Playa del Carmen.) Padre is as good as it gets in TX (which is sad), and it truly gets worse as you approach LA (which is way beyond sad).

There is NOTHING between DFW and HOU (sprawl excluded).

Okay sure but wait until winter until you tell off Texas. Evil is coming to us I tell ya'. It's cool though , just dust off your blues albums.

I like Texas: funny and cool people and more open-minded than other people in the US think.

Playa del Carmen is beautiful but last I checked flights were well over 500. Good thing is most everything is inexpensive but I went three years ago before it was the "up and coming" resort area

It's okay, I came here in October so they say this was the worst winter for Chicago...and I experienced it so the rest will be easy. I tell ya...I love the snow at Christmas...the way the clear moon shines off of it. It's something magical. I do not miss running around in shorts and sandals on Christmas Day in Texas, lololol.

Austin has really open minded people...Dallas can be somewhat snooty...the big cities are okay, but the country folk...well, i don't have time to write about them all, hahahahah

Well pretty bad, maybe not the worse, but like you said.. you survived. Slavics have no problems up here. Check out Michigan, lots to do for cheap.

Yeah, it was a pretty tough and snowy winter. It happens once per a decade or less. I would not change Chicago for anything...and i tried. I hate the heat and dread the next two months, well so far so good.
Lovely cool nights and wonderful warm days. You can't beat the lovely, luscious green Midwest in the spring and summer.. :)

Yeah, Midwest is kind of a secret, underrated and ignored. Well maybe not Chi.

Funny in the 70's they thought it was another ice age was here. I remember it - it was like something out of a book.. winter world.

Unfortunately, true. Chicago does not know how to promote itself. Wait a minute, we're are just about to be famous. As of today, the city of Chicago charges 10.25% of tax on purchases. That's higher than NY or LA. wtf? Oh well, the stores in the suburbs will do a brisk business. :)

It is good to be here Wahldo. We should go out sometimes...I'm still learning my way around. If it were not for my GPS...I would be totally lost.
