what is the stigma associated with chinese in North America may I ask you?
for me personally there isn't any, but there was time when Chinese guest workers were seen as underdogs , especially at the beginning on the 20 th century in both USA and Canada. Then other Asian people followed, like Koreans, Vietnamese and others. The term -" he just got out off the boat" decribes a person who escaped from their own country, usually somewhere in Asia into the west.
Lately, with China rising into an economic power, the stigma seems to be dissapearing. I don't know what the history of immigration is in the UK, so therfore I don't know if there is stigma.
When it comes to Japs - the stigma was probably created when Japanease bombed Pearl Harbor.
