To make it even clearer

Got it.
I think.

Anything that we post on the Off Topic board may be deleted. Ok possibly then but don't quote me vibe going on here.

I rang up an IT Helpline once. Yes I know I was young and naive but they told me on the leaflet they may be able to help me.
My pc's cup holder was faulty and before i'd even asked them they said don't tell me, you're having trouble loading a CD.
Sounds so obvious now but you see I could have saved myself some trouble if the packaging had said not suitable for cups when I bought it. :)

Unregistered/public/new members do not see and do not have access to the Off-topic threads, so Off-topic threads are actually something extra for them (extra cup-holders even if they didn't expect them), not something that have been advertised, but not delivered.

So it's a special disincentive for those that take the time and effort to join in and foster that all elusive Esprit de Corps.

Fraternisation will be dealt with secretly. :)

To make it even clearer, the "Off-Topic Lounge" is now officially renamed to: Off-Topic Lounge [deletable]. That means ANY topic from this forum may be deleted without notice and explanations.

Ok Admin. You know of me when i first started coming on here im sure, as infact we used to have some good times and laughs. We used to bring you into the conversation and not leave you out in the cold, Yet ive watched this room and Forum grow alot bigger over its time, the MODS have changed and some new ones added. You will also remember it was me also that gave you some ideas, and of which you promised to get back to me and only did on one occasion. There was a group of us that wanted to become MODS and you ADMIN never even contacted us.

Im not on it as much these days as prefer now to go by emails or MSN, then the topic goes in one direction and dont get deleted, some posts are rubbish i admit that myself, but considering im not Polish i do try and bring a intelligent post into this room.
I know ADMIN and the MODS have a duty to perform, but maybe in future when a post is drifting away from its intended, then maybe an idea to leave a note saying if it goes any further of the subject then it will be deleted.

But ADMIN can you also remember it was this very room that life really started in, because this is where we all met.

When it comes to assigning a forum moderator, the following things are considered:

1. If a moderator is likely to be available on daily basis.

2. If a moderator has something to say about Poland and Polish news (or is genuinely interested in Poland and Polish matters). If a member has 1,000 posts, but 800 are in the Off-topic discussions, he/she is not as a good candidate to be a moderator as a member who only has 100 posts, but 80 are in the Poland-related subjects.

3. If a moderator is not prejudiced and as objective as possible in his/her views.

4. The knowledge of Polish (even basic) is a plus.

5. Being actually interested to do moderator job and have a good sense of how to build a good community.

6. Understand and agree with most of the current moderating rules and procedures.

Being a friendly and helpful person like you are makes you a good and respectable man, but it's not always enough to do the moderating job...

Yes ok i can see where your coming from on that idea. But i was willing to learn and always listened, sometimes admin as much as you have this hi-tech job to do, You sometimes never listened and just passed judgement.

But im glad all us lower cases helped build polish forum to what it is today

My Thoughts on this Forum and Moderators

are not always ecstatic, but I have to give credit to them. I think the mods chosen do the job well and fairly. I question (more often than I actually care[not that it is for agument's sake]) some methods of them and Admin, but am generally really happy with what they do. And to think of the amount of sh*te they have to monitor at times - fair play to them :)

My friend belongs to another forum and though I don't always express it on here, I praise the PF team in comparison with her forum's leading members.

Praise-time over. Felt better than a rant :)

I like the relatively low key moderation here, but one thing strikes me as pretty sneaky for the lack of a better word). Posts are moved without warning, redirection or acknowledgment.

A couple of days ago I created a thread dealing with pronunciation. In my mind the topic deserved to have its own little area. Within less than an hour it was merged. The validity of the move could be argued both ways, but that's not the point. To me it's a matter of courtesy, so it was disappointing to first see a useful thread disappear altogether. I stumbled upon what I posted later, but now in another thread.

I'm not sure if the issue is with policies, or with the board's functionality. Is there a "move" and/or "merge" topics function available to mods?

Like others before here, I would like to see some info from mods as to why a thread has been locked, or deleted (although I don't agree with thread deletions at all, as there is some educational value in those those too)

You may find some information in this link regarding the moving/merging of some threads.
I cannot comment on your thread but as a general rule, threads that are similar can be merged. To save yourself some time, use the search function at the top right of the screen to find out if a thread you're thinking of starting may already exist. :)

Once again, the only threads that will be deleted are from the "Off Topic Lounge (deletable)". Polish threads may be locked but any information within them is not lost as they are available to read. :)

As you noted, "Merge" doesn't equal "Disappear." There are many posts that we feel should be kept in one thread - especially when they are similar and of the same author. For example, there's Youtube thread by Janusz who presents his videos in one thread - that way it's easier for the reader to track the posts.

Is there a "move" and/or "merge" topics function available to mods?

Surely there is.

In most new "cases" we put a comment or warning right below the post in question (in small font). But it's not possible to explain that in every situation. Generally, as noted above, only threads from the Off-Topic forum may qualify for deletion.

the bottomline is that both admin and the mods provide a fantastic service for us here which remains FREE and uncluttered with annoying adverts... and they largely go unthanked for it
