Three more Polish males lose lives on Irish roads

Again, I was shocked to see on the news that out of 7 fatalities on the Republic of Ireland roads this weekend, 3 of them unfortunately were Polish, it also appears at this moment in time, that fault lay with them for both accidents, which claimed the remainder of the lives lost.

This is another tradgedy for all concerned.

Can our Polish contributors please try and explain why their countrymen appear to be so dangerous on the road?

I'd have thought that the left-hand / right-hand driving issue would probably play a major part in this.

No, Polish drivers are notorious for their reckless driving. Look at Poland. The country is so cramped, roads aren't nearly large enough, and they drive like complete idiots. Poland has the largest per capita death total due to car accidents.

I've noticed that many Poles are prone to irritation and take that onto the road. I know this problem is not confined to Poland by any means, I just suspect that the frustration level is higher. I could be wrong

I think most concerned were in the country for some time, though one was in a hire car going to the Kerry area on a break with his Italian girlfriend who also died. Both accidents happened on main roads, one on a good 1/2 mile straight.

Again apologises for not finishing my first post with RIP.

I can only think it was brought about by tension and not so much driving error. Driving when relaxed and vigilant is not that hard.

I think it is largely the left hand / right hand driving issue - there have been a few accidents like the Kerry one.
A momentary lapse of concentration.

I've done it myself, driving on the continent - I went the wrong way round a roundabout once.
And through the wrong side of a junction on another occasion.

Can never be careful enough on the road.

Hardly the same level of seriousness, but my Polish girlfriend gives me constant grief
for my driving (which admitedly isn't great), but she claims Polsih are excellent drivers.
Going by this thread she's telling fibs, I've also found that she drove her own car into
a ditch once, and had to get it dragged out by the fire dept. - I'm saving that nugget for
later :-)

Passing a driving test in one country shouldn't automatically give you licence to drive in another.

People should be tested again in the country they wish to drive in.

A lot of these Poles have bought their driving licenses. There is not evidence that they always actually take a test. Another issue is that they love to drink and drive. It is illegal to do so but do they care? Polish Polonez and Maluch motor cars are not designed to be driven on our roads.

Maybe another contributing factor might be tiredness. I don't know for sure, but if someone has been doing a lot of overtime, as many Poles do tend to do when they have the option to, as well as working their days off, then at the end of their shift drives home, tiredness can cause fatal errors, especially when driving on roads that are unfamiliar.

Yes, I can explain that to you! The poles in my eyes are just quite irresponsible people. I learned to drive in germany, most germans drive very carefully and always even think about their personal responsibility for other people who drive on the roads. Not so the poles. When I first came to poland with my car, I was shocked!! Some poles behave like criminals on the roads, not taking responsibility for anyone. Maybe its just 1% of the polish drivers, which act in that way, but this small minority is responsible for this terrible accidents, even on western european roads. But don't worry! It's getting better and better and soon the discipline will rise.

No it is true...Germans (for all their faults) are exceptional drivers. The follow the rules and are safe. They understand what it takes to move at high speeds safely and to share the road.

Poles are the opposite...they ignore the rules and drive selfishly and inattentively.

I heard once a little while ago that the French have twice as many accidents on the road than the U.K. The reason given was that the French tend to accelerate out of positions of danger whereas the British are trained to stop on the spot. I imagine that the Poles are similar to the French in this regard.

The Polish driving education and testing system is a revenue generator nothing more. The instructors are a joke and the test is routinely "failed" a few times so they have to pay again to retest.

I refuse to ride with most driver's here.

Why were they here in the first place?

They chased the money and paid the price.
