Tinky Winky from the Telly Tubbies has been branded as a homosexual because he carries a “hand bag” (which is in fact a magic bag lol), and Ewa Sowinska would like him banned from Polish TV, because it promotes homosexuality. Do you think this is going a bit too far?

Warsaw - A Polish official has asked psychologists to evaluate a character in the popular British Teletubbies children's television programme for homosexual tendencies.

'I've noticed Tinky Winky carries a woman's purse, but I didn't think he was a boy,' Poland's Children's Ombudswoman Ewa Sowinska told the Monday edition of Poland's Wprost news magazine.

That's because Tinky Winky is gay. He is purple which is the official gay color and has a traingular antena which is the symbol for gays.

Only because of the interruption of one man, The Reverend Jerry Falwel who defined it as you say. But he was a bit of a nutcase anyway :)

we had this debate several years ago in the UK. A friend of mine worked on the show.. and yes he is a symbol of homosexuality, but its not something that young children would pick up on.. the others all symbolise something too, but cant remember what it is right now. I think banning it is ridiculous because like many childrens programmes it can be read on many different levels... such as Clangers, Magic Roundabout and Captain Pugwash to name a few.. any of you who know these will know what Im talking about

Exactly, so why should we make a big deal out of it? :)

I have nothing against homosexuality, but wearing something that symbolizes it
in a childrens show is really going overboard.. what purpose is it to do that, whether
the kids pick up on it or not, it sure doesnt need to be flaunted in every aspect of
life,, if they want to be considered normal then start doing normal, its not like
homosexuality isnt accepted more now, so why keep throwing it in every dam thing
out there.. for what reason?? to show you are homosexual.. I have limits to what
I find appropriate, and I do think things get way out of hand at times and this causes
problems more so then if they just be themselfs.. and it doesnt require whereing
skimpy clothes in public!!!

everyone else acts normal, so its time to wind it down a bit !!! start focusing on
more important issues then who you want to get in bed with...

sorry, but thats my feelings, I have friends who are, they even get annoyed at this
im out of the closet march.. we know, weve known for a long time, so please lets
just start being more respective towards each other.. keep it private. I dont tell
the whole world about my private life, and dont need to display it in public to
tell everyone that I am strong.. and that isnt courage, its plain out rudeness.

I dont care if your heterosexual, homosexual.. drag, whatever..

set some limits.. and I thin they should make the tinky winky wear the normal
costume, he has a problem with it, find someone else to do the job.. cant be that
hard to jump around in a outfit ...

Imho

this happened TEN years ago in the USA my god why does Poland have to copy our idiots! Think about it if Tinky Winky is gay we must then acknowledge Telly-Tubbies have sex and is this what we teach our infants! Tinky Winky is a toy a cartoon character or whatever Not Gay ! Do you want to explain to a 3 year old what a gay person is? So damned stupid! The religious right will destroy Poland and make it the laughing stock of europe. I mean really this is such an OLD arguement it will make Polish jokes fashionable again I am about to cry let me just open my purse for a hanky.

The show was first broadcast on US public TV last spring where it is now as popular as another children's show, Barney, a singing dinosaur. But perhaps parents should beware of Barney as well - he also happens to be purple.

it is a bit of a typical Polish problem :) when government cannot help the real one, they are creating another just to let people chat about it :)
a bit of a conspiracy theory (by the way - this theory, the conspiracy theory is also from USA...)
