as pointed out on another thread, today's exchange rate is 1.00 GBP = 5.25471 PLN which is putting a smile on my face

do you think we are going to continue to see movement in the right direction or is this just a temporary fluctuation...?

I think this trend will continue but its double edged for the Polish economy.
If I were an investor I would see it as a good sign overall.

because of the fall in eastern and american stock markets recently it will continue for next few days, but my money is on another raise of interest rates from the bank off england which will increase the pound if the markets dont pick up. my advice would be to exchange your zloty for pounds now, wait a couple off weeks and exchange it back.

Yeah. I should've thought about that. Our exchange is somewhere around 2.56 per dollar. I'll be going in December, so I hope our dollar will gain a little more value.

no way you got that much.the highest exchange range i remember was about 7.25zl for a pound and that was before we joined the european union.it was probably 350 £ not 650£.
this rate doesn't put smile on my face at all.5 weeks ago i had to exchange pounds into zlotych to buy a flat.2 weeks before travelling to poland the rate was 5.60.when we arrived it went down to 5.35 because of the problems with northern rock so that i was fuming with anger but now i see that i was a quite lucky anyway.5.25 rate is really bad for us,poles working in the uk...

Must have been an unofficial exchange or older than the last 5 years then. Just checked Yahoo Finance and the highest rate in the last 5 years was around 7.3Zl to £1.

In future Telefonitika gets to do all my currency exchanges (10% commission) LOL

i don't really know much about economy but i know that after problems with northern rock the pound's exchange rate went down very quickly.it could have had something to do with a few billion pounds which had to be poured into the northern rock chest by the bank of england to stop it spiralling down.northern rock's problems were just the continuation of what happened in the us-something to do with bad credidts and so on

Financial markets operate on confidence, rumour and counter-rumour. A run on one lender makes people nervous about tips of icebergs. The US sub-prime debt stats made the market nervous, Northern Rock was the most visible early casulaty because of their ludicrous lending and funding of that lending through secondary markets (you still with me?) When the BOE jumped in to bail out the panicky customers, people with the real financial clout started to move their assets around the world and sterling was not seen as a good idea so they sold it big time. Things happen very quickly in that business

It really hacks me off when so called professionals can lend money to high risk creditors and get fat bonuses and we pay for their dumb mistakes. The myth of the city whizzkids is largely just that a myth. I spent a lot of time working in that sector so I know that there are some very good and some bloody awful people working in it. Sorry to hear about your loss. No doubt the increasein the value of your property has made up for it already!

the kantors are a bit slow on using the new rates. Many of them still give better rates for USD than CAD.
